Singleplayer[]

Cliffhanger[]

On-screen: I did not tell half of what I saw, for I knew I would not be believed..."
Marco Polo
on his deathbed, 1324

Nathan Drake: (groans) What's going on...?

Nathan Drake: That's my blood... That's my blood, that's a lot of my blood...

Nathan Drake: What...?

Nathan Drake: Oh God. (screams)

Nathan Drake: (chuckles) Oh, crap.

A Rock and a Hard Place[]

(While climbing the long yellow bar, when it begins to snap off.)
Nathan Drake: ...It's OK... it's OK... come on...

(While still hanging onto the bar after it snapped and bend.)
On-screen: Hold Left analog stick in the direction you want to swing and press X to jump.

The Lost Fleet[]

Harry Flynn: Buy me a drink, sailor?

Nathan Drake: Harry Flynn?!

Nathan Drake & Harry Flynn: Hey!

Nathan Drake: What the hell are you doing here?

Harry Flynn: I'm looking for you, mate.

Nathan Drake: Uh-oh. Should I be flattered or worried?

Harry Flynn: Maybe a bit of both.

Nathan Drake: (laughs)

Harry Flynn: C'mere, I've got a job for us.

Nathan Drake: Really?

Harry Flynn: A client is willing to part with a huge sum of cash if we 'acquire' a certain object for him.

Nathan Drake: All right, I'm listening.

Harry Flynn: Now—you're not gonna like this.

Pamphlet (on-screen): The Istanbul Palace Museum
Marco Polo Exhibit

Nathan Drake: Oh, no. No, you're out of your mind.

Harry Flynn: Yeah, just-just hear me out for a sec-

Nathan Drake: Flynn, we both know two people who were killed trying to lift something outta this place.

Harry Flynn: And one who made it out.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, barely.

Harry Flynn: I can't do this without you, Drake. You're the only one who's cracked it. And you know better than anyone, it's a two-person job.

Nathan Drake: No, no, no—three, actually.

Harry Flynn: Right. And speak of the devil, here she comes now.

Nathan Drake: Wh-?

Chloe Frazer: Chloe Frazer.

Nathan Drake: Nate. Drake. Nathan Drake.

Chloe Frazer: Hello, Harry.

Harry Flynn: Chloe here's one of the best drivers in the business, she'll take good care of us.

Nathan Drake: I bet.

Harry Flynn: All right, look—I've got it all figured out. We go in through the sewer—

Nathan Drake: Loving it so far.

Harry Flynn: That put us in the courtyard. From there, we scale up the wall, run across the rooftops, and just drop down into the exhibit hall. Bob's your uncle. And what is worth all this trouble, I hear you ask...?

Nathan Drake: I didn't, but go ahead.

Pamphlet (on-screen): Mongolian Oil Lamp
Recovered from a warehouse outside Trabzon, this ceramic oil lamp is inscribed with Mongolian ʼPhags-pa script, which dates it to the 13th-century Yuan dynasty, in the reign of the emperor Kublai Khan. It may well have belonged to the famous Venetian merchant himself, left behind on his journey home from the Orient in 1293. The lamp is porcelain with a celadon glaze distinctive for its jade-like appearance. This shape is reminiscent of a Roman and Hellenistic style unconventional for Chinese oil lamps, and may have been inspired by a lamp carried by the merchants from the West.

Nathan Drake: That's it? An oil lamp?

Harry Flynn: Yeah.

Nathan Drake: (chuckles) It's worthless. I don't get it.

Chloe Frazer: Neither do we. That's why we tracked you down.

Nathan Drake: Well, it sounds like you're working for a nutcase. Some collector, who's got too much time and money on his hands. And by the way, this—is not worth any of it.

Harry Flynn: But there's more... How's your 13th-century Latin, mate?

Nathan Drake: Where'd you get this?

Harry Flynn: 'Borrowed' it from the files of the nutcase.

Nathan Drake: "In Trebizond, we were set upon by thieves. Father, Maffeo and I were robbed of our greatest treasures..." This was written by Marco Polo.

Chloe Frazer: Yes, that much we were able to work out.

Harry Flynn: Unfortunately, the rest of its nonsense.

Nathan Drake: Wait, hold on... "So that it should not fall into the wrong hands, I concealed my great sorrow in the unlikeliest place. The light of the Great Khan shelters the fate of the thirteen."

Harry Flynn: See what I mean? It's just gibberish.

Chloe Frazer: He's talking about the lost fleet.

Nathan Drake: Yeah...

Harry Flynn: Hello, someone want to fill me in?

Nathan Drake: Marco Polo leaves China with six hundred passengers and fourteen ships, loaded down with treasure from Kublai Khan. Now, he lands in Persia a year and a half later with only one ship left and only eighteen passengers. Now, he recorded every detail of his journey, but he never told what happened to all those ships and the passengers.

Chloe Frazer: So—so, somewhere out there—there are thirteen ships loaded with the emperor's treasure, waiting to be found.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, and that is what your client is after. Look at this lamp. It's covered in Mongolian script—it must've been a gift from Kublai Khan.

Harry Flynn: 'The light of the Great Khan...

Harry Flynn and Chloe Frazer: ...shelters the fate of the thirteen.'

Nathan Drake: Marco Polo hid something inside this lamp. Something that pinpoints the site of the lost fleet.

Chloe Frazer: So... we're dicking this guy over, right?

Nathan Drake: Damn straight!

Harry Flynn: Absolutely!

Harry Flynn: You're in, then?

Nathan Drake: What the hell. What could possibly go wrong?

Gameplay (continued)[]

(Upon pressing Triangle to open the locked door.)
Nathan Drake: (sighs) Course it's locked, it's always locked.

On-screen: Press L2/L1 to aim, press R2/L1 to shoot

(After passing through.)
On-screen: Press R2/L1 to reload

(After the single enemy encountered is taken out by an explosion.)
Nathan Drake: Karma's a bitch.

Mostly Professional[]

Chloe Frazer: Hello.

Chloe Frazer: Well, so much for foreplay.

Nathan Drake: You mind telling me what the hell is going on?

Chloe Frazer: You mean with Flynn?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, you mighta warned me.

Chloe Frazer: And miss the look on your face? Anyway... you haven't exactly made yourself easy to find.

Nathan Drake: Talk about making yourself easy...

Chloe Frazer: Oh, you're not jealous... Let's not forget who walked out on whom, after all. You don't get to be jealous.

Nathan Drake: Now, wait a minute, Chloe.

Chloe Frazer: If it makes you feel any better, my relationship with Flynn is strictly professional.

Nathan Drake: Really?

Chloe Frazer: Mostly professional.

Nathan Drake: (groans)

Chloe Frazer: When I figured out he was actually onto something, I thought you'd want to be in on the action.

Nathan Drake: So what's the plan?

Chloe Frazer: Just like we said. We pull the heist, we find the ships, and make off with the treasure.

Nathan Drake: With Flynn.

Chloe Frazer: Mm-hm.

Nathan Drake: And then?

Chloe Frazer: And then, we split the take three ways, and you and I just disappear. Together, this time.

Nathan Drake: I see...

Chloe Frazer: Until then, he can't know about us.

Nathan Drake: He's gonna be pissed.

Chloe Frazer: He's gonna be fine. Trust me.

Night at the Museum[]

On-screen: ISTANBUL
Four Months Earlier

Nathan Drake: You sure you're up for this?

Harry Flynn: Feel a lot better if I had a gun.

Nathan Drake: We won't need 'em.

Harry Flynn: A little insurance, that's all.

Nathan Drake: Flynn, they're just museum guards, and we have their patrols all mapped out. Relax.

Harry Flynn: Relax? (laughs) Relax? Have you ever been in a Turkish prison, mate? If we get caught, they will lock us up and throw away the sodding key, you do realize that, don't you?

Nathan Drake: Better than you do.

Harry Flynn: Well, you may fancy that kind of thing, but I don't. We can't afford to make any mistakes.

Nathan Drake: (laughs) Yeah, and we won't.

Chloe Frazer: We're here.

Harry Flynn: This way.

Harry Flynn: So what do we do if they switch the patrols?

Nathan Drake: We figure it out as we go.

Harry Flynn: We cannot fumble our way through this.

Nathan Drake: I don't 'fumble'—I improvise.

Chloe Frazer: Oh, is that what you call it?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I'm uh... adaptable.

Chloe Frazer: 'Adaptable.'

Harry Flynn: You cocky bastard.

Nathan Drake: (chuckles)

Harry Flynn: There. What did I tell you? That passage there is gonna take us right under the museum.

Nathan Drake: You called it, all right.

Harry Flynn: You need to have a little more faith in me, chum.

Chloe Frazer: Okay... This one here is me.

Nathan Drake: All right, remember, that tower's our only way into the exhibit, but we can't even get close with those floodlights on.

Chloe Frazer: We've gone over this.

Nathan Drake: Just make sure you cut the power by the time we reach the second courtyard.

Chloe Frazer: The lights will be out. I'll have the van waiting at the rendezvous point. Just make sure you get your asses out of there in time.

Nathan Drake: Fair enough.

Harry Flynn: All right, enough chat—let's do this.

Nathan Drake: Chloe—see you on the other side.

Chloe Frazer: Looking forward to it.

Breaking and Entering[]

(At the start of the chapter, and as they make their way through the sewers.)
Nathan Drake: You're sure you know where you're goin'?

On-screen: Press X to climb up onto a ledge.

Harry Flynn: Don't I always?

Harry Flynn: Don't you love the way the water makes your jeans all squidgy?

Harry Flynn: It's like the good ol' days, innit?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, when were those again?

(Upon reaching the end of the yellow pipe.)
On-screen: Push Left analog stick away from the wall and press X to jump to the opposite edge

(Upon reaching the dead end.)
Harry Flynn: Oh, wait, this can’t be right. We’ve must’ve made a wrong turn somewhere.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: Hey. Now, whaddya bet that will take us right into the boiler room?

Harry Flynn: And from there, we're in.

Nathan Drake: (laughs) Yeah, in like Flynn. Right?

Harry Flynn: What?

Nathan Drake: In like Flynn.

Harry Flynn: I don't get it.

Nathan Drake: Just give me a boost.

Nathan Drake: ...Here it comes.

Harry Flynn: Thanks.

(Upon climbing halfway up.)
Nathan Drake: Almost there, you ready?

Harry Flynn: No guts, no glory.

(Upon pressing Triangle to open the manhole cover.)
Nathan Drake: Here we go.

(Once he climbs through.)
Nathan Drake: We're good.

(Upon pressing Triangle to get in position below the second ladder.)
Nathan Drake: Just reach up there and grab the ladder.

Harry Flynn: Okay... all right...

Harry Flynn: There, I dropped it down for you.

(Upon reaching the top of the platform.)
Nathan Drake: All right, this is the way to the courtyard.

Harry Flynn: Ow. Well, we're not going this way. Not if you want to keep your skin.

Nathan Drake: All right, there's gotta be a shut-off valve around here somewhere.

Harry Flynn: See if you can find it then.

(After turning the valve.)
Harry Flynn: You got it.

(Upon being prompted to take cover.)
On-screen: To take cover, press Circle when next to an object

Nathan Drake: Okay, now there should be a door just around this corner. That's our access point. Once we're through, just stick to the plan. You got me?

Harry Flynn: Tell me you didn't miss this.

Nathan Drake: I'm here, aren't I?

(Upon approaching the door and pressing Triangle.)
Nathan Drake: It's locked.

Harry Flynn: Good job I came prepared.

Nathan Drake: (laughs)

Harry Flynn: I pick more than my nose, my friend.

Nathan Drake: Wait! There's an alarm. That's new since last time.

Harry Flynn: Great, now what?

Nathan Drake: Well, I can disarm it if we can find the junction box.

Nathan Drake: It's gotta be around here somewhere.

(After some time has passed without having found the junction box.)
On-screen: Up Follow the power cable from the alarm to the junction box

(After flipping the switch.)
Nathan Drake: There, that oughta do it.

Harry Flynn: All right, we're in.

(Upon encountering the guard.)
Harry Flynn: Shit.

Nathan Drake: I got him.

On-screen: To exit around corners press Left analog stick forward and tap Circle

(After moving past the downed guard.)
Harry Flynn: There's the tower.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, but we can only get to it from the roof, and we can't get to the roof from here. We're going to have to make our way to the next courtyard. Through that gate over there.

Harry Flynn: Well, let's do it.

(Upon being prompted to take cover again.)
On-screen: To take cover, press Circle when next to an object

(After taking cover.)
On-screen: To perform a corner transition, press Left analog stick forward and hold Circle

(Upon approaching the guard from behind.)
On-screen: To stealth attack from cover, press Square when the target is near.

(After dispatching the guard.)
Harry Flynn: We've got to get up to that balcony. We can climb the gate over here.

Nathan Drake: Got it.

(Upon encountering the pair of guards.)
Nathan Drake: Crap.

Harry Flynn: I've got the other one.

Museum guard 1: Gece vardiyasında çalışmaktan nefret ediyorum. (I hate working the night shift.)

Museum guard 2: Haklısın abi. (You're right, man.)

Museum guard 1: Hiçbir şey olmuyor. (Nothing happens.)

Museum guard 2: Bazen o kadar canım sıkılıyor ki, uyanık kalmakta zorluk çekiyorum. (Sometimes I get so bored, I struggle to stay awake.)

(Upon coming close to one of the guards.)
On-screen: To perform a melee attack, rapidly press Square

On-screen: To continue the melee combo, repeatedly tap Square

(Shortly after, as the camera shifts to view the two new guards entering the area.)
Museum guard 1: Vardiyan ne zaman bitiyor? (How long till your shift ends?)

Museum guard 2: Daha çok var. (Not anytime soon.)

Museum guard 1: On beş dakikaya kadar bitiyor. (It ends in fifteen minutes.)

Harry Flynn: C'mon, what are you waiting for?

(Shortly after.)
Museum guard 1: İşler nasıl bu aralar? (How is work these days?)

Museum guard 2: Bugün epey bir sessiz. (Today is really quiet.)

Harry Flynn: Okay, we're almost there. I'll go right, you go left.

(Upon approaching the portcullis together.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, we should be able to lift this up, sneak right under.

Harry Flynn: Whoa, whoa, not so fast, there's another alarm.

Nathan Drake: Ah, great. You wanna get this one?

Nathan Drake: (sighs) Wait here.

(Upon disabling the alarm.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, it's off.

(Upon pressing Triangle to lift the gate.)
Nathan Drake: All right, one, two, three... (groans) All right, go!

Harry Flynn: You got it?

Nathan Drake: Yeah.

Nathan Drake: Hurry!

Nathan Flynn: Okay, okay, got it.

Nathan Flynn: Hurry up!

Nathan Drake: Easy, easy.

(After passing through the gate.)
Nathan Drake: All right, we gotta cross this courtyard to get onto the roof.

Nathan Flynn: Okay, I'll just let you do the asskicking, all right?

Nathan Drake: Right...

Nathan Flynn: Head for the fountain.

(While in the second courtyard, from the guards close to the stairs.)
Museum guard 1: Selam Hakan. (Hi Hakan.)

Museum guard 2: Bu gece nasılsın? (How are you tonight?)

Museum guard 1: Yorgunum. Bir an önce eve gitmek istiyorum. (I'm tired. I wanna go home at once.)

(From the pair of guards on the right-hand side.)
Museum guard 1: Melih'e ne olduğunu duydun mu? (Have you heard about what happened to Melih?)

Museum guard 2: Evet, o transfer olmamış mıydı? (Yeah, didn't he get transferred?)

(Upon pressing the Up prompt when past the two guards on the far right corner.)
Nathan Drake: Now we just gotta find a way up to that window.

Harry Flynn: Which window? There's a lot of bloody windows.

Tipping the Odds[]

Nathan Drake: (sighs) Crap. Now what?

Harry Flynn: It's time to tip the odds back in our favour.

Nathan Drake: Oh, that's brilliant—guns? What are you thinking?

Harry Flynn: Relax, Gandhi, they're tranquilizer guns. Totally non-lethal. Your conscience will remain unscathed.

Nathan Drake: Oh, well, good idea.

Harry Flynn: Great. Okay, little bit of advice: these things have lousy range, so we still have to get in close. You okay with that?

Nathan Drake: I know how to shoot a gun, genius.

Harry Flynn: All right.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Harry Flynn: All right. All right, let's take these guys out.

Museum guard 1: Bu kutuları bizim taşımamızı beklemiyorlar umarım. Bu bizim görevimiz değil ki. (I hope they don't expect us to carry all these boxes. It's not our job.)

Museum guard 2: Bunlar ne ki zaten? (What are those anyway?)

Museum guard 1: Eski sergiden kalan eşyalar. Depoya gidiyorlar. (Stuff from the old exhibit. They're heading for the storage.)

Museum guard 2: Bana çerçöp gibi geldi. (Seems like trash to me.)

(Upon dispatching both guards.)
Nathan Drake: We gotta get up to that walkway.

(When Flynn moves next to the cart.)
Harry Flynn: This could help

(Upon taking cover next to him.)
On-screen: Use Left analog stick to move the cart

Harry Flynn: Give me a hand would ya.

(Upon starting to push the cart.)
Harry Flynn: Okay, for something with wheels, this is very heavy.

(After pushing it all the way.)
Nathan Drake: There, that'll work.

Harry Flynn: Now all we need is a horse.

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after climbing up to the walkway.)
Nathan Drake: Those rafters will get us onto the roof, if we can get up there.

Harry Flynn: Good thing one of us thought ahead, eh?

(After he attaches the grappling hook.)
Harry Flynn: All yours.

(Partway through climbing along the upper ledges.)
Museum guard: Hey! Eller yukarı! Eller yukarı! (Hey! Hands up! Hands up!)

(After shooting the guard.
Harry Flynn: Whew, thanks mate.

(Shortly after.)
Nathan Drake: C'mon.

Harry Flynn: All right, all right, I'm comin'. I think I'm gonna take the elevator next time.

(Upon spotting the tower again.)
Nathan Drake: All right, there's the tower.

Harry Flynn: Getting closer.

Nathan Drake: Appreciate that update, Captain Obvious.

(While Flynn inches along the narrow rooftop.)
Harry Flynn: Don't look down... don't look down, don't look down...

(While you follow after him.)
Museum guard 1: Mehmet'e ne oldu? (What happened to Mehmet?)

Museum guard 2: O mu? O artık gündüz vardiyasında çalışıyor. (Him? He works the morning shift now.)

Museum guard 1: Memnun muymuş? (Is he pleased about it?)

Museum guard 2: Mutluymuş, öyle duydum. Ama ben kişisel olarak turistlerle muhatap olmak istemem.(I've heard he's happy. But personally I wouldn't want to deal with tourists.)

(After he jumps to the other rooftop.)
Harry Flynn: Come on.

Nathan Drake: Okay, I'm comin', I'm comin'.

Harry Flynn: Gotcha.

Nathan Drake: Pull me up, pull me up.

Harry Flynn: You've put on weight, mate.

Nathan Drake: Oh, shit, that was close.

Harry Flynn: Whew, all right, no more donuts for you.

(When Flynn is about to place the second grappling hook.)
Harry Flynn: Okay, I can get this.

Harry Flynn: (shouts) Once again, you're up.

(While hanging from the rope.)
On-screen: Move Left analog stick from side to side to swing on a rope

(After making the jump.)
Harry Flynn: I'm right behind ya.

Nathan Drake: As always.

(Upon reaching the rooftop's edge.)
Harry Flynn: There's a guy above you, there's a guy above you!

On-screen: To perform a ledge takedown, press Square while hanging

(After taking the guard down.)
Harry Flynn: There's a guy below you, there's a guy below you!

(Upon climbing the large air vent with the light on the rooftop.)
Harry Flynn: Yeah, great view. I can see your house. Let's get moving.

(Upon reaching the end of the metal walkway.)
Harry Flynn: There's a guard right below you.

On-screen: While hanging, press L2/L1 to aim, press R2/L1 to shoot

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after the tower comes into view again.)
Harry Flynn: Nearly there.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, but why are the lights still on?

Harry Flynn: Chloe will take care of it, don't worry.

(Upon approaching the final guard along with Flynn.)
Harry Flynn: Quick, take him out.

Nathan Drake: And you're here why?

(Upon approaching the tower.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, shit. We can't get any closer with the tower lit up like that. What the hell is she doin'?

Harry Flynn: C'mon Chloe... Ah, that's my girl.

(After he opens the gate into the tower.)
Harry Flynn: Okay, we're clear.

Harry Flynn: Ladies first.

Nathan Drake: (laughs) Cute.

Nathan Drake: Here we go.

Doublecrossed[]

Harry Flynn: Ah, there it is.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, and there's the acoustic alarm. Until we get this case unlocked, that thing's gonna go off if we so much as touch this glass.

Harry Flynn: No worries, mate.

Harry Flynn: Voilá.

Nathan Drake: (laughs) All right...

Harry Flynn: Now, we're sure it's the right one?

Nathan Drake: Well, I guess there's only one way to find out.

Nathan Drake: Sorry, Marco.

Nathan Drake: Crap.

Harry Flynn: Well, that's the understatement of the year. This is it? It's bloody useless!

Nathan Drake: '...the light of the Great Khan...' Wait a minute...

Harry Flynn: What're you doing?

Nathan Drake: It's resin. It'll burn.

Harry Flynn: And...?

Nathan Drake: Just gimme your lighter.

Harry Flynn: Is that really a good idea, in here?

Nathan Drake: C'mon...

Harry Flynn: Whoa...

Nathan Drake: Let me see that.

Nathan Drake: '...our ships were driven by a great flood tide into the wilds of Java...'

Harry Flynn: Sounds like they were hit by a tsunami.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, somewhere off the west coast of Borneo.

Harry Flynn: Oh, great, that narrows it down a bit.

Nathan Drake: Look—this mountain must've been the closest landmark where they went aground. We find that mountain, we find the ships.

Harry Flynn: Yeah, good work, mate.

Nathan Drake: Wait, wait—there's more... '...as if the ocean itself sought to throw off the terrible cargo we carried from Sham-bha-la—the curse of the Cintamani.'

Harry Flynn: That mean something to you?

Nathan Drake: Shambhala... Oh my God... Flynn—

Harry Flynn: What?

Nathan Drake: Marco Polo found Shambhala.

Nathan Drake: Shangri-La.

Harry Flynn: You're joking.

Nathan Drake: If they were carrying the Cintamani Stone, it might still be there.

Harry Flynn: This is all very fascinating... But we've really got to go.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I'm right behind you.

Nathan Drake: What the hell are you doing?

Harry Flynn: Sorry, mate. This is where we part ways.

Nathan Drake: Wait, Flynn, we had a plan.

Harry Flynn: No, you had a plan. Turns out I've got one of my own.

Nathan Drake: C'mon, throw me the rope—don't be stupid—

Harry Flynn: Oh yeah, right—you're the mastermind. Only you overlooked one little detail, didn't you, partner?

Nathan Drake: So what're you gonna do, shoot me now?

Harry Flynn: No. I just need you out of the way for a little while.

Nathan Drake: Shit!

Harry Flynn: You think I didn't know about the ships from the beginning? Any schoolboy could've figured that out.

Nathan Drake: Flynn, listen—

Harry Flynn: Face it, genius. You've been played.

Harry Flynn: Ah-ah, not yet! Want to give the guards a decent head start.

Harry Flynn: Right, that's my cue. No hard feelings, yeah?

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
On-screen: Press Circle to evade laser targeting

Nathan Drake: Dammit, Flynn!

(Upon going down the only available hallway.)
Museum guard 1: Hemen çıkışları kapatın! (Close down the exits now!)

Museum guard 2: Kapıyı kapatın! (Close the door!)

(As your path is blocked by a gate.)
Nathan Drake: Oh no, no, no, no! Okay, now I'm screwed.

(Upon heading down the nearby stairs.)
Nathan Drake: All right, all right, think Nate, think.

(Upon reaching the manhole.)
Nathan Drake: yeah, there it is.

(Upon heading down the stairs in the sewers.)
Nathan Drake: Yeah, this way, this way.

(Upon reaching the bottom.)
Nathan Drake: All right, use your head Nate, use your head.

(Upon making it halfway through the room.)
Nathan Drake: (groans) How the hell do I get outta here?

(Upon reaching the exit tunnel and the ladder.)
Nathan Drake: Here we go, there we go. Gotta get to that ladder.

(Upon climbing the ladder.)
Nathan Drake: (laughs) See ya, suckers.

Payback Time[]

On-screen: Three Months Later

Nathan Drake: "You overlooked one little detail, didn't you, partner?" "What?!" "Face it, genius, you've been played." "Oh really..." "(gun sound effect)" "(death sound)"

Nathan Drake: Hey hey hey, jackass, you're ruining the show here.

Victor Sullivan: Ah, what a shame.

Nathan Drake: Sully!

Victor Sullivan: I really can't leave you alone for a minute.

Nathan Drake: Oh man, am I glad to see you.

Victor Sullivan: How are you doin', kid?

Nathan Drake: Ahh, I'm doin' just great.

Victor Sullivan: So, I had to grease a few palms. Did go through the rest of your money. And a good chunk of my own. But hey... (laughs)

Victor Sullivan: Jesus, you stink.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, not half as bad as that cigar.

Victor Sullivan: Yeah...

Nathan Drake: Hey, how'd you find me?

Victor Sullivan: Well, a friend of yours asked for my help...

Chloe Frazer: Hello, Nate.

Nathan Drake: Oh no. No.

Victor Sullivan: Now, wait a second—

Nathan Drake: Sully, kick her out and shut the door. We're safer in here.

Victor Sullivan: Just wait a goddamn minute. Hear her out.

Chloe Frazer: Thank you, Victor.

Nathan Drake: Hey, no offense, Sully, but you're not exactly the best judge of character. Especially when it comes to women.

Victor Sullivan: Fair enough. All the same.

Chloe Frazer: Dear God.

Nathan Drake: Oh no, it's not that bad. Look, I have my own bucket. Last cell I was in, eight of us had to share.

Chloe Frazer: Listen, Nate-

Nathan Drake: Y'know something—I really appreciate you dropping by—but if you and Flynn hadn't screwed me over in the first place—

Chloe Frazer: Now, wait a minute-

Nathan Drake: —I wouldn't've been rotting in—

Chloe Frazer: Listen—Nate-

Nathan Drake: —this shithole for the last three months—so excuse me if I'm not just, y'know, leaping into your arms.

Chloe Frazer: I had nothing to do with it.

Nathan Drake: Right.

Chloe Frazer: I told you, he's not going to listen to me.

Victor Sullivan: Screw this. Nate, they found the ships.

Nathan Drake: In Borneo?

Victor Sullivan: Yep.

Chloe Frazer: Yes.

Nathan Drake: And the Cintamani Stone?

Chloe Frazer: How do you know about that?

Nathan Drake: Do you really think Flynn could've figured that out on his own?

Chloe Frazer: All right, good point. No, they haven't found it yet.

Nathan Drake: What do you mean, 'they'?

Victor Sullivan: Flynn and his client, Lazarević.

Chloe Frazer: Y'know, the 'nutcase'? They've been working together all along.

Nathan Drake: All right, then. If they haven't found the Stone, that means there's still time.

Nathan Drake: You're gonna get us into that dig site, we're gonna snatch that treasure right out from under them.

Chloe Frazer: They'll never see it coming.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, well, payback's a bitch.

Nathan Drake: Look—they called it 'the wish-fulfilling jewel'. It's a sacred object.

Chloe Frazer: What, like a Buddhist 'holy grail'?

Nathan Drake: Exactly.

Chloe Frazer: Thanks.

Nathan Drake: Sully, listen to this. "In the kingdom of Shambhala lies the most lies the most precious thing to be found in all the world—a perfect raw sapphire of the deepest blue, larger around than the reach of a man's arms."

Victor Sullivan: Oh, that's gotta be worth millions.

Nathan Drake: Hundreds of millions. And you say there's more of this?

Chloe Frazer: Loads more. Lazarević paid top dollar for Marco Polo's journals. He's been after the Cintamani Stone for years.

Victor Sullivan: Well, if he's been counting on Flynn to find it for him, it's no wonder he hasn't had any luck.

Nathan Drake: If I can get a look at Lazarević's files, I can find that stone.

Chloe Frazer: Hang on a minute cowboy, that's easier said than done. The files are in his tent, and his tent is in the middle of the camp. It's like an armed compound, there are soldiers everywhere.

Nathan Drake: Well, that's why it has to be an inside job. From someone they know and trust.

Chloe Frazer: Oh, okay, I see where this is going.

Nathan Drake: I'll just need a diversion. You give me five minutes in that tent, that's all it'll take.

Chloe Frazer: Really, five minutes? Well, that's great, I won't even have to get my top off.

Nathan Drake: Chloe, I was thinking more like an explosion.

Chloe Frazer: Or that—can be arranged.

On-screen: BORNEO

Nathan Drake: Chloe, you reading us?

Chloe Frazer (radio): Load and clear.

Victor Sullivan: We're getting close.

Borneo[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Chloe Frazer (radio): Okay, I've planted charges all around the perimeter of the camp. You two just need to arm them. The first one should be right ahead of you.

(Upon finding the first charge.)
Nathan Drake: Here it is.

Chloe Frazer (radio): I also left the detonator for you.

Victor Sullivan: Ah-huh, there we are.

Nathan Drake: All right. First one's set. Don't—touch the button.

Victor Sullivan: This one? (laughs)

Chloe Frazer (radio): Once you've set all the charges, just hit the detonator and it's showtime.

Victor Sullivan: (laughs) They'll never know what hit 'em.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Just be careful, Lazarević has got his men posted all around the perimeter.

(As you head deeper into the jungle.)
Victor Sullivan: Keep an eye out for patrols.

(Shortly after.)
Victor Sullivan: (sighs) I'm sweatin' like a hooker in church.

Nathan Drake: You brought a hooker to church?

Victor Sullivan: Why not?

(Upon getting close to the first pair of soldiers.)
Victor Sullivan: Hey, careful, up ahead.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Don't let them spot you.

Victor Sullivan: Let's take these guys out. Quietly.

Soldier 1: How much longer do you we have to stay in this stinking swamp?

Soldier 2: When Lazarević finds what he's looking for.

(If you do not take them out quietly.)
Victor Sullivan: I said quiet Nate, that's the other end of loud.

(Upon picking up another weapon.)
On-screen: Press Left/Right to change weapons

(Upon getting close to the second pair of soldiers.)
Soldier 1: I swear, my feet haven't been dry for a month.

Soldier 2: Don't let Lazarević hear you complaining like that.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, after taking out all the soldiers.)
Nathan Drake: Looks like we can swing across there.

Victor Sullivan: (laughs) Yeah, maybe you can.

Nathan Drake: All right, hold on grandpa, I'll see if I can find another way up.

(Upon pushing down the large rock nearby.)
Nathan Drake: Heads up!

Victor Sullivan: Ah, perfect. Thanks kid!

(Upon jumping across where the boulder was.)
Nathan Drake: This way.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Nate, you should be approaching excavation site one by now.

Soldier: They should've been back by now.

(Upon being spotted.)
Victor Sullivan: Shit. We've been spotted.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Take them out fast. We can't let them send word back to camp.

(Upon climbing the wooden wall after taking out the soldiers.)
Chloe Frazer (radio): You should be getting close to the first camp. I've planted four more charges in there, but you're going to have to clear the place out before you can arm them.

(Shortly after.)
Soldier 1: There's nothing out here. Why don't we give up?

Soldier 2: Lazarević, give up? Remember who you're talking about.

Nathan Drake: Here's the camp. You ready for this?

Victor Sullivan: Let's do it.

Soldier 1: We've scoured all the wrecks, what else would he expect to find?

Soldier 2: Don't let Lazarević hear you talking like that.

(After eliminating all the soldiers.)
Victor Sullivan: All right, we gotta find those explosives and get 'em armed.

(Upon taking too long.)

Victor Sullivan
  • Nate, we've still gotta arm the explosives, remember?
  • C'mon kid, quit screwing around. We haven't armed all the charges yet.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
On-screen: Arm the explosives

(After arming each explosion, in order.)

Victor Sullivan
  • We still gotta arm three of the charges.
  • There should be only two left.
  • All right, one more and we're outta here.
  • Okay, that's all of 'em. Now let's go pay Mr. Lazarević a visit.

(Upon taking up position beneath the ladder.)
Nathan Drake: Can't reach this. Come on over here and I'll give you a boost.

Victor Sullivan: All right.

Nathan Drake: C'mon gorgeous, jump up.

Nathan Drake: You got a great ass, Sully.

Victor Sullivan: Thanks. Here you go kid.

Nathan Drake: All right.

(Upon climbing atop the cliff.)
Victor Sullivan: Oooh, that must've been some tsunami to wash these ships so far inland.

(Upon entering the small camp.)
Victor Sullivan: Looks deserted.

(Upon encountering the soldiers working the pump.)
Nathan Drake: Get down.

Soldier 1: The pump is down again.

Soldier 2: (groans) The damn thing is always breaking down!

Soldier 1: Come on, let's just fix this so we can get out of here.

Nathan Drake: Look, they're not armed.

Victor Sullivan: Well, not that many—what are we waiting for? We can take these guys.

Nathan Drake: I don't know Sully, maybe—

(Upon regaining control, and as you follow the on-screen instructions.)
Soldier 2: Intruder!

On-screen: To perform a melee attack, repeatedly tap Square

On-screen: To continue the melee combo, repeatedly tap Square

On-screen: To react to the enemy's grapple, press Triangle

On-screen: To throw a finishing punch, quickly press Square after performing a dodge.

(After the fight.)
Nathan Drake: I could've used some help down here.

Victor Sullivan: Hey, you were doing fine.

Victor Sullivan: Here's another one for ya!

Nathan Drake: Sully!

(After the fight.)
Victor Sullivan: Enough of this frivolity kid. C'mon, we got work to do.

Nathan Drake: What does frivolity mean?

(Upon climbing to the top of the ledge.)
Victor Sullivan: What do you bet we follow the hose, we find the camp?

Nathan Drake: You always follow the hose. Just like in Montreal, huh?

Victor Sullivan: You're never gonna forget that, are ya?

The Dig[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: I think I see the camp up ahead.

Surrounded by traitors and fools[]

Nathan Drake: (whispers) Down, get down.

Victor Sullivan: Okay, you ready?

Nathan Drake: Wait, just—hold on a sec.

Zoran Lazarević: Three months, and you have found nothing.

Harry Flynn: W-well now, wait—wait a minute, we've been—

Soldier 1: Commander!

Nathan Drake: That must be Lazarević.

Soldier 1: This man was caught stealing artifacts from site number five.

Zoran Lazarević: (chuckles) You would betray me for this?

Soldier 2: No—no, Zoran, I can explain—

Zoran Lazarević: No, no need, no need.

Soldier 2: (gurgles)

Zoran Lazarević: I am surrounded by traitors and fools!

Victor Sullivan: Whaddya say we really ruin this guy's day?

Nathan Drake: Do it.

Zoran Lazarević: Spread out! Search the perimeter! Go!

Soldier' : Move, now!

Victor Sullivan: All right, it's all yours, kid! I'll cover you from here!

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Victor Sullivan (radio): (laughs) Some fool left a sniper rifle up here. Careful Nate, looks like they left a couple of sentries behind. Okay kid, it's showtime.

To Higher Ground[]

Nathan Drake: Man, this Lazarević guy isn't screwing around, Sully. You should see all this stuff. He's got files on every expedition to find Shambhala—all the way back to the 1600s.

Victor Sullivan (radio): What about Marco Polo's journals?

Nathan Drake: (chuckles) Here they are.

Victor Sullivan (radio): Just hurry it up, you haven't got much time.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, yeah, yeah. 'The worthy pilgrim is granted a golden passport to conquer obstacles on his journey to Shambhala'. Huh.

Victor Sullivan (radio): Is that supposed to mean something?

Nathan Drake: Beats me.

Nathan Drake: Hold on, here we go. 'It was with great sorrow that I left my fellow travelers to their fate—a fate decreed by the dreadful cargo we bore from Shambhala.'

Victor Sullivan (radio): They must've thought that tsunami was some kind of divine retribution.

Nathan Drake: Wait a minute... Damn. Sully, I don't think the Cintamani Stone is here.

Victor Sullivan (radio): What?

Nathan Drake: Listen to this: 'I would have sooner endured the wrath of Kublai Khan himself than remove the Cintamani Stone from that sacred shrine.' Marco Polo never had the Stone.

Victor Sullivan (radio): Then what 'dreadful cargo' is he talking about?

Nathan Drake: I don't know...

Victor Sullivan (radio): Well, if the Stone's not here, what the hell is Lazarević looking for?

Nathan Drake: Shambhala.

Victor Sullivan (radio): Here in Borneo? He's a little wide of the mark, don'tcha think?

Nathan Drake: He must be trying to pick up Marco Polo's trail... back to Shambhala.

Victor Sullivan (radio): Why?

Nathan Drake: Because the Stone is still there. Chloe, can you talk?

Chloe Frazer (radio): Hold on. Yeah. I'm here.

Nathan Drake: In all this digging they've done, have they found any bodies, any remains at all?

Chloe Frazer (radio): No, now that you mention it—nothing. Why?

Nathan Drake: (laughs) Over six hundred people were shipwrecked here, yet there's no bodies? Don't you find that a little odd?

Chloe Frazer (radio): So where did they all go?

Nathan Drake: Where would you go, if a tsunami hit?

Chloe Frazer (radio): ...to higher ground.

Nathan Drake: Bingo. We head to that mountain, what do you bet we find Marco's pals? Chloe, can you meet up with us?

Chloe Frazer (radio): Already on my way.

Nathan Drake: Great.

Victor Sullivan (radio): Uh-oh. Nate, you gotta get outta there.

Nathan Drake: You're gonna have to give me a minute, Sully.

Victor Sullivan (radio): You don't have a minute!

Soldier 1: What's this?

Soldier 2: They're all dead! Search the camp!

Soldier 3: Spread out!

Nathan Drake: Oh, crap!

Victor Sullivan (radio): Stay down, kid! I got you covered!

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Soldier 1: Got a body over here! You, spread out!

Nathan Drake: Grenades, well that's convenient.

(Upon regaining control.)
On-screen: To aim-throw a grenade, start by holding L1/L2

(Upon holding either button.)
On-screen: With L1/L2 held, tap L1/L2 to throw a grenade

(After throwing one grenade.)
On-screen: Hold L1/L2 to aim grenade arc

(Upon picking up another grenade.)
On-screen: While aiming a grenade, press Triangle to cancel the throw

(Semi-randomly, corresponding with each successive wave and the direction from which they spawn.)

Victor Sullivan (radio)
  • On the left!
  • There's more of 'em!
  • They're coming in from the left!
  • They're coming in on the right!
  • They're coming down the middle!

(Semi-randomly, once they start to exclusively attack Sully.)

Victor Sullivan (radio)
  • There's too many of 'em!
  • They're closing in on me!
  • They're trying to flank us!

(Upon clearing out the wave focusing on Sully.)

  • They've sent reinforcements! Hang back, I'll do what I can from here!
  • They've sent reinforcements! Don't let your guard down kid! I'll do what I can from here.

(Once the gunner in the tower opens fire.)
Victor Sullivan (radio): Shit! Help me kid! You gotta take out the tower!

Nathan Drake: I got ya, Sully.

(Upon pressing the Up prompt if you take too long.)
On-screen: Arc-throw a grenade into the tower.

(Upon destroying the tower.)
Victor Sullivan (radio): Hah! Nice one!

(Upon rejoining Sully along the path to higher ground.)
Nathan Drake: Should be this way.

(Upon reaching the withered stone staircase.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa, Sully, look at these stones.

Victor Sullivan: Ahh, now we're gettin' somewhere.

(Upon finding the temple.)
Nathan Drake: (laughs) Would you look at that.

Victor Sullivan: Oh, yeah.

Chloe Frazer: Hey. Hell. What do we have here?

Nathan Drake: With any luck, the last resting place of Marco Polo's crew.

Victor Sullivan: Shall we check it out?

(Upon entering the ruins.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, this place must be thousands of years old.

Victor Sullivan: At least.

(Upon climbing down the hole.)
Nathan Drake: Down this way.

(Upon climbing down to the bottom.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa... looks like we hit the jackpot.

Chloe Frazer: Eugh. There must be hundreds of bodies down here.

Nathan Drake: Look at their teeth—they're all black.

Victor Sullivan: For God's sake, they're all that way...

(Shortly after.)
Nathan Drake: They must've taken refuge here during the tsunami. There's gotta be some sort of clue around here.

(Upon entering the storage chamber.)
Nathan Drake: Hey, I think I found something. In here.

Victor Sullivan: What?

Chloe Frazer: They must've carried their cargo all the way up here after they were shipwrecked.

(Upon pressing Triangle to pick up the resin.)
Nathan Drake: More resin. I've seen this before.

Nathan Drake: Sully, give me a light.

Chloe Frazer: Ohh.

Victor Sullivan: Oooooh...

(Upon revealing the bloodstains.)
Nathan Drake: Wait a minute... this is blood.

Chloe Frazer: It's everywhere.

Victor Sullivan: Looks like a real massacre.

Nathan Drake: All right, let's follow the bloodstains. We'll see if they lead somewhere.

(Upon reaching the end of the trail and pressing the Up prompt.)
Victor Sullivan: Seems to end at this wall.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, that's odd.

(Upon pressing the Triangle prompt.)
Nathan Drake: This moves a little. Sully, help me out.

Victor Sullivan: Oh, here we go again with the pushing...

Nathan Drake & Victor Sullivan: (groans)

Victor Sullivan: I think I hurt myself.

(Upon going through the revealed passage.)
Nathan Drake: The trail leads in here.

Victor Sullivan: Oh, man, more bodies.

Chloe Frazer: Oh my God...

Nathan Drake: Y'know, maybe I'm crazy, but it looks like they all killed each other.

Victor Sullivan: C'mon, Nate, you're just getting spooked.

The Golden Passport[]

Chloe Frazer: Whoa...

Nathan Drake: Look at this.

Nathan Drake: What do we have here?

Chloe Frazer: Careful...

Nathan Drake: (screams)

Chloe Frazer: (screams)

Victor Sullivan: (shouts) Christ Almighty...

Nathan Drake: (laughs) Just kidding.

Victor Sullivan: Nate, you're gonna give me a goddamn heart attack.

Nathan Drake: Whoa.

Victor Sullivan: Man, is that an ugly freakin' thing.

Chloe Frazer: What is it—some kind of weapon?

Nathan Drake: No, No it's a Phurba. It's a ritual object, from Tibet. It's used to destroy obstacles.

Victor Sullivan: Huh?

Nathan Drake: You know—spiritual ones.

Chloe Frazer: Oh.

Nathan Drake: Wait a minute... Could this be what Marco Polo was talking about?

Victor Sullivan: Kid, I don't even know what the hell you're talking about.

Nathan Drake: In his journal—he wrote that the worthy seeker would be given a golden passport to conquer obstacles on the journey to Shambhala'.

Chloe Frazer: So, what, this is it?

Victor Sullivan: Look, that's all really interesting, but where the hell is it a passport to?

Chloe Frazer: Well, maybe this map would help.

Nathan Drake: Lemme see that.

Nathan Drake: 'Between Greater India and the province of Tibet lies a field of exquisitely finished temples, hundreds of gilded spires stretching as far as the eye can see.'

Victor Sullivan: Hold on, I know this place. It's in Nepal.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, except it's not just a field of temples anymore... it's a city.

Chloe Frazer: Well, that could make things a little more challenging.

Nathan Drake: Hold on, there's more... 'In all these many temples, only one conceals the secret path to Shambhala, and that path shall only be revealed to the pilgrim... who bears the golden passport.'

Victor Sullivan: (laughs) All right, nice work, kid.

Chloe Frazer: So what are we waiting for? Let's get outta here.

Nathan Drake: All right.

Victor Sullivan: See ya.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Chloe Frazer: Let's get going.

(Upon reaching the entry hole.)
Chloe Frazer: I'm gonna go out and make sure the coast is clear. See you in a bit.

Take Them to Lazarevic[]

Victor Sullivan: You wanna give me a hand, Nate?

Soldier: This way!

Victor Sullivan: Oh, goddamn it.

Nathan Drake: C'mon—

Chloe Frazer: Harry! In here!

Soldier: Don't let them escape!

Chloe Frazer: It's Drake!

Nathan Drake: What the hell—?

Chloe Frazer: Get your hands up!

Victor Sullivan: You sure know how to pick 'em.

Nathan Drake: Shut up, Sully.

Harry Flynn: Should've known it was you. And you, Victor 'goddamn' Sullivan. You still dragging this tired old sack of shit around?

Victor Sullivan: Easy, Nate

Harry Flynn: That's pretty ballsy for a guy who's spent the last three months behind bars.

Nathan Drake: Better than pissing away three months in the jungle without a clue.

Harry Flynn: Found the ships though, didn't I?

Nathan Drake: You couldn't find your own ass with both hands.

Victor Sullivan: And a map.

Chloe Frazer: They came from down there.

Chloe Frazer: Whoa... Harry look at this.

Harry Flynn: Speaking of maps... ...between India and Tibet... one temple will reveal a—

Nathan Drake: —pathway to Shambhala. Jesus, Flynn, while we're young.

Harry Flynn: Oh, now, don't be such a bad sport. Take them to Lazarević. You're gonna wish you'd stayed in prison, mate.

Chloe Frazer: Move.

Soldier: C'ome on, keep moving!

Chloe Frazer: Ah, shit!

Nathan Drake: Are you alright?

Chloe Frazer: Yeah, well, it'll make it look more believable. Now, I'm going to try and buy you some time.

Nathan Drake: Chloe, you have to come with us.

Chloe Frazer: No. Just meet me in Nepal. Now, run.

Nathan Drake: Let's go.

Victor Sullivan: I like her.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I bet you do.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Nathan Drake: Shit, they spotted us!

Victor Sullivan (radio): Run for it!

(Upon reaching the gap.)
Victor Sullivan: Watch it!

Nathan Drake: (screams)

Victor Sullivan: What?

Nathan Drake: Thanks for the heads-up!

Victor Sullivan: Will you quit screwing around and get up here? Let's go!

(Upon reaching the top.)
Nathan Drake: Run!

Trouble in Nepal[]

Victor Sullivan: Ah damn, now what do we do?

Nathan Drake: We jump.

Victor Sullivan: Hohoho, hold on there, Sundance—you gotta be outta your mind. We'll break our goddamn necks.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, if we get caught, Lazarević'll break 'em for us.

Victor Sullivan: I'm getting too old for this bullshit!

Nathan Drake: Oh, come on, now don't you start this again.

Victor Sullivan: Listen, I don't have your luck. Guys like me got to know when to walk away from the table.

Nathan Drake: Sully, we're gonna get outta this. Okay? We always do.

Victor Sullivan: Yeah, you go meet your girl in Nepal. I'm going somewhere warm.

Nathan Drake: Come on—

Victor Sullivan: Hey, you can tell me all about it when you get back.

Harry Flynn: There they are!

Nathan Drake: Oh, shit.

Victor Sullivan: Well... shall we?

Nathan Drake: After you, Butch.

Victor Sullivan: See ya in hell, kid!

Victor Sullivan: (cheers)

Nathan Drake: Ho-ho—Crap!

Harry Flynn: Shit!

On-screen: NEPAL

Nathan Drake: When you said Lazarević had a head start on us, you weren't kidding...

Chloe Frazer (radio): Well, he's had some help from the local guerillas... The city's been on the brink of civil war for years. He just needed to throw a little gasoline on the fire.

Nathan Drake: Charming.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Yeah, well, all the chaos provides some cover while he destroys the city looking for the right temple.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Nate? Hello?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I'm still here.

Chloe Frazer (radio): You're not having second thoughts, are you?

Nathan Drake: Who, me? Never.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Good, 'cause I'm so ready to be done with these clowns. You got a map?

Nathan Drake: Uh, yeah.

Chloe Frazer (radio): I'll meet you in the Old Market, things are pretty quiet over there.

Nathan Drake: All right, you got it.

Nathan Drake: Uh-oh. I got company.

Chloe Frazer (radio): Oh, great. Can you lose them?

Nathan Drake: I think it might be too late for that.

Nathan Drake: Come on...

Chloe Frazer (radio): Nate, are you all right?

Nathan Drake: I've been better.

Nathan Drake: Shit.

Urban Warfare[]

(After the cutscene, when the truck starts chasing him again.)
On-screen: Hold Left analog stick and press L1/R2 to run-and-gun

Nathan Drake: Don't they ever give up?!

(After the truck blows up.)
Nathan Drake: (sighs) Shit...

(Upon entering the street.)
Nathan Drake: Okay... The Old Market... ....oughta be this way...

Soldier 1: Find him!

Nathan Drake: Crap.

Soldier 2: Go, go, go!

Soldier 1: He's here somewhere.

(After the cutscene.)
Soldier 1: Keep your eyes open.

(Once the bus appears.)
Soldier 1: Shoot at them, fire!

Nathan Drake: What the hell?

Soldier 1: Take 'em out!

Nathan Drake: Whoa...

(After eliminating the soldiers.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, now I just gotta find Chloe.

(Upon approaching the crashed bus.)
Nathan Drake: (groans) Well, I guess I'm not going that way

(Upon aiming with a FAL rifle.)
On-screen: Press R3 to enter Sniper Mode

(Upon entering Sniper Mode with a FAL rifle.)
On-screen: Click R3 while aiming to zoom

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
On-screen: Climb the street sign

Nathan Drake: Looks like that'd get me up there.

(As you go through the building, upon encountering the crashed truck.)
Nathan Drake: Nice parking job.

(Upon reaching the rooftop, as the helicopter flies overhead.)
Nathan Drake: No way.

(Shortly after, as you make your way across the rooftops.)
Soldier: Clear the streets!

(When a truck with reinforcements arrives.)
Soldier: Hey!

Nathan Drake: Oh, no.

An Ass Worth Saving[]

Chloe Frazer: Seems like I am always saving your ass.

Nathan Drake: Well, it is an ass worth saving.

Chloe Frazer: (chuckles)

Nathan Drake: (laughs)

Chloe Frazer: Oh, is that an ancient Tibetan ritual dagger in your pocket?

Nathan Drake: Well, maybe I'm just happy to see you.

Chloe Frazer: Hmmm.

Nathan Drake: Hello!

Chloe Frazer: So this is the key to everything?

Nathan Drake: Yes it is. Marco Polo's 'passport' to Shambhala.

Chloe Frazer: What do we do with it?

Nathan Drake: Ah! I have no idea, actually. I do know Lazarević won't get very far without it.

Chloe Frazer: I wouldn't underestimate him, you know. He and Flynn have been tearing this city apart. They must've leveled dozens of temples already. So, what's our next move? Nate? (sighs) I hate it when you do that.

Nathan Drake: (laughs) Check this out. You see this symbol?

Chloe Frazer: Yeah...

Nathan Drake: Look up there.

Chloe Frazer: OK, I see the resemblance... So what does it mean?

Nathan Drake: It means we know how Marco Polo found his next clue. The temple we're looking for is gonna be marked with this emblem. Now all we have to do is find it.

Chloe Frazer: You do realize there are literally hundreds of these temples throughout the city?

Nathan Drake: Yes, but if we found a higher vantage point...

Chloe Frazer: ...we can spot our needle in the haystack.

Nathan Drake: Right.

Chloe Frazer: There's a hotel not far from here...

Nathan Drake: (chuckles) Chloe, now is not the time.

Chloe Frazer: It's easily the tallest building in the city.

Nathan Drake: Right. Right, well, okay—that's uh, that's good thinking.

Chloe Frazer: Follow me.

Nathan Drake: Yep.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(Upon following Chloe to a locked door.)
Chloe Frazer: It's no good, it's locked.

Nathan Drake: Wait here, I'll see if I can find a way around.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
On-screen: Climb the street sign

Nathan Drake: Looks like that'd get me up there.

(Upon climbing up to the second floor and pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: Hey, I can see the hotel from up here.

Chloe Frazer: Yeah, I know, we're almost there.

(Upon reaching the yellow street sign, if you let the guards open the door.)
Soldier 1: Move in!

Soldier 1: They're here somewhere!

Soldier 2: Shoot the lock!

Chloe Frazer: Hello, gentlemen.

(Upon landing while it is still locked.)
Chloe Frazer: Nate? Open the door.

(Upon kicking it open after shooting the lock.)
Nathan Drake: Stand back.

Chloe Frazer: Got your back!

(Once she kills one of the soldiers.)
Chloe Frazer: I got 'em, I got 'em!

(Once she spots one of the soldiers on the fire escape.)
Chloe Frazer: On the fire escape.

(Once all soldiers have been eliminated.)
Chloe Frazer: Gimme a boost. I think I can reach that ladder.

Nathan Drake: Boy, it's a shame you have to sit on something that pretty.

(Once she kicks the ladder down.)
Chloe Frazer: Here ya go. Don't say I never do anything for you.

(Upon pressing Triangle to clear the blocked path.)
Nathan Drake: C'mon, this way.

(As Nate holds up the blockage.)
Nathan Drake: Go.

Chloe Frazer: Okay.

Nathan Drake: Any day now.

Chloe Frazer: Just don't want to get a splinter.

Nathan Drake: That was chivalrous, huh?

Chloe Frazer: It's not dead, you just gotta ask for it.

Desperate Times[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Soldier 1: Fire!

Soldier 2: Mow them down!

Resistance soldiers: (unintelligible)

(Upon pressing the Up prompt.)
Nathan Drake: Doesn't look like things are going too well for the resistance.

I Don't Like These Odds[]

Soldier: Search the entire area.

Nathan Drake: I don't like these odds.

Chloe Frazer: No?

Nathan Drake: No, I think maybe we should cut over to the hotel a different way. Just avoid this crew altogether.

Nathan Drake: I'm sorry, do you have a plan to go along with that grenade?

Chloe Frazer: Yes I do... I'm going to circle around this way, break up their little party.

Nathan Drake: Aren't you forgetting about somebody?

Chloe Frazer: Well, that's where you come in, sweetheart. I need you to take care of him. But, ah, do it quietly.

Nathan Drake: Do it quietly...

Chloe Frazer: Yeah.

Nathan Drake: Are you sure about this?

Chloe Frazer: 'Desperate times', right?

Nathan Drake: What does that mean?

Gameplay (continued)[]

(Once the soldier carrying the RPG-7 is attacked or when a fight is started.)

Chloe Frazer: Here it comes!

(WUpon witnessing the truck with more soldiers appear, after the initial group has been killed.)

Chloe Frazer: Oh crap, reinforcements.

Nathan Drake: Oh shit, get back!

(When the second group appears.)
Nathan Drake: How many soldiers did he hire?

(After the fight is over.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh, man.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I think that's the last of 'em.

Chloe Frazer: Well, this is the hotel. Now we just need to find a way up.

(If you wait for Chloe to find a way up.)
Chloe Frazer: Hey!

Nathan Drake: What?

Chloe Frazer: Over here. Come and check this out. There's a fire escape.

(Upon getting closer.)
Chloe Frazer: I think this is our best bet. Gimme a boost up.

Nathan Drake: You got it.

(Upon giving Chloe a boost.)
Chloe Frazer: Okay.

Nathan Drake: Ya got it?

(Once she kicks the ladder down.)
Chloe Frazer: Come on up.

Chloe Frazer: All right, looks clear so far.

Nathan Drake: Is there another way in?

Chloe Frazer: Not from here.

(Upon jumping onto the street pole Chloe Frazer: Very resourceful.

(Upon entering the hotel.)
Nathan Drake: All right, I'm in.

(Once the armored soldier appears.)
Nathan Drake: Oh crap!

(After the fight.)
Chloe Frazer: This way.

Going Up[]

Chloe Frazer: Oh, well, that was unpleasant.

Nathan Drake: They must've hit a generator. Gimme a hand.

Nathan Drake: Just a little more...

Chloe Frazer: Nate, move!

Nathan Drake: It's no good. I'm gonna have to fix the power to get you out. You gonna be okay?

Chloe Frazer: Yeah. Wish I'd brought something to read.

Nathan Drake: Looks like the circuit breaker's on the top floor. Just sit tight, I'll take care of it.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Nathan Drake: Great, power's out and a girl's trapped. I swear to God, if there's a zombie around the next corner.

(Upon passing by the elevator shaft again when nearing the circuit breaker.)
Chloe Frazer: Nate? You haven't forgotten about me, have you?

(Upon reaching the circuit breaker.)
Nathan Drake: Found it.

(Once she gets out.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh, thank God.

Nathan Drake: Almost there, c'mon.

(Upon boosting Chloe up again.)
Nathan Drake: Up she goes.

Chloe Frazer: Oh, I think you're liking this a bit too much.

(Upon entering the pool.)
Nathan Drake: (laughs) Hey, check it out... Marco—

Chloe Frazer: Really?

Nathan Drake: Come on.

Chloe Frazer: No.

Nathan Drake: Marco—

Chloe Frazer: Polo...

(Upon getting out.)
Nathan Drake: (laughs) Fish outta water!

Chloe Frazer: You are so unprofessional.

(Upon nearing the railing you need to jump across.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, this way.

Chloe Frazer: And still more climbing.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, that's usually how it goes.

Time to Go[]

Chloe Frazer: Well, here we are.

Nathan Drake: Now we just gotta find the right temple.

Chloe Frazer: Well, that may be easier said than done.

Nathan Drake: I know, tell me about it. Maybe we can—Oh. Bingo.

Nathan Drake: There it is.

Chloe Frazer: That's the one?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, it's gotta be.

Chloe Frazer: The one in the middle of all the gunfire and explosions.

Nathan Drake: Lucky us.

Chloe Frazer: Nate, that's right where Lazarević is camped. I was hoping we'd be headed in the opposite direction.

Nathan Drake: Well, desperate times, right?

Zoran Lazarević (radio): ...Drake has been spotted in sector eighteen.

Nathan Drake: Ah, crap... any chance this is sector nineteen?

Zoran Lazarević (radio): Sweep the city! Find him, and take him out!

Nathan Drake: Son of a bitch. Right. Time to go.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Chloe Frazer: Come on Nate, let's get moving!

(Upon reaching the dead end.)
Chloe Frazer: Damn it. How the hell do we get across?

(Upon starting to climb across.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh God, be careful.

(Once the helicopter appears.)
Nathan Drake: Holy shit!

(After the cutscene.)
Chloe Frazer: Here, I've got you! Give me your hand.

Nathan Drake: Just go!

(Upon reaching the hole in the last building.)
Nathan Drake: Down here!

Chloe Frazer: Get up, Nate!

Chloe Frazer: You okay?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, never better...

(Upon entering the elevator.)
Chloe Frazer: No, no, no, not the elevator!

Nathan Drake: Good point.

(Once the helicopter moves backwards to shoot the building.)
Nathan Drake: What the hell are they doin'?

Chloe Frazer: This isn't good...

(As the building starts dropping.)
Nathan Drake: It's going down!

Chloe Frazer: Holy shit!

Nathan Drake: Whoa!

(Once it hits the other building.)
Nathan Drake: Jump!

(After the cutscene.)
Nathan Drake: (laughs) We were almost in that. (chuckles)

(Upon leaving the room.)
Nathan Drake: This way. Come on!

Chloe Frazer: Guess we caught this hotel in the down season, huh?

Nathan Drake: Haha, come on.

(Upon cranking the bridge up.)
Nathan Drake: A bridge. Sweet.

Chloe Frazer: Yeah, tell me about it. The resistance fighters built them to get across the rooftops.

Nathan Drake: Lucky for us.

(Once the helicopter appears again.)
Chloe Frazer: Nate, look out!

Nathan Drake: This guy doesn't give up! Get down!

(Upon hitting the helicopter with the M32 - Hammer.)
Nathan Drake: That's what I'm talkin' about!

(After dealing several hits.)
Chloe Frazer: Come on Nate, just a couple more hits!

(After shooting it down.)
Nathan Drake: Down she goes!

Chloe Frazer: (cheers) Okay, lower the bridge!

(Upon reaching the traversable wire.)
Nathan Drake: Hey that wire, that's our way down. Go! Go!

Chloe Frazer: All right, all right.

Nathan Drake: Oh, crap! Oh!

Chloe Frazer: Are you okay?

Nathan Drake: Oh, God that hurts...

Chloe Frazer: I'm gonna find another way down.

Nathan Drake: All right...

Last Year's Model[]

Jeff Wynia: Whoa! Hey, hey, don't shoot!

Woman: Hey!

Elena Fisher: Nate...? What the hell are you doing here?

Nathan Drake: Elena?

Elena Fisher: Jeff, don't—!

Jeff Wynia: Wait, you know this guy?

Elena Fisher: Yeah. This is Drake.

Jeff Wynia: Oh. Sorry.

Elena Fisher: So what's your angle on all this misery? You gonna plunder a few temples? Loot the museum?

Nathan Drake: It's nice to see you, too.

Nathan Drake: I suppose you're here for some noble crusade, right?

Elena Fisher: Actually, we're trailing a fugitive war criminal—Zoran Lazarević. Have you heard of him?

Nathan Drake: Isn't that NATO's job?

Elena Fisher: Well, they think that he's dead—killed in some bombing raid.

Nathan Drake: Oh, and you're here to prove otherwise.

Elena Fisher: Y'know what? This guy's a real monster, Nate. We're talking torture, mutilation, mass executions... But see, now he's—he's plotting something new... But why out here? Why—why tear apart the city, y'know? It just doesn't make any sense...

Elena Fisher: Oh... no, tell me you don't have anything to do with this.

Nathan Drake: (laughs) That's ridiculous—

Chloe Frazer: There you are, Nate. I think I lost them—

Nathan Drake: Oh whoa, whoa, it's all right, Chloe. They're... journalists.

Chloe Frazer: Well, we need to keep moving, if we want to stay one step ahead of Lazarević, so—

Elena Fisher: Oh, man, Nate...

Nathan Drake: Hey, wait, wait—now don't jump to conclusions, Elena.

Chloe Frazer: (laughs) Uh, I'm sorry, am I sensing some history here?

Elena Fisher: Oh, Elena Fisher. Last year's model.

Nathan Drake: Haha, that's cute.

Chloe Frazer: (laughs)

Nathan Drake: No. No. I'm glad you find this so funny.

Chloe Frazer: Well, it's just I never figured you for the white-bread, picket-fence type.

Nathan Drake: She's a lot tougher than she looks, thank you.

Chloe Frazer: Oh.

Nathan Drake: 'Oh', what?

Chloe Frazer: She broke your heart.

Nathan Drake: Oh, please.

Chloe Frazer: She did, didn't she?

Nathan Drake: Y'know what? Maybe I broke hers.

Chloe Frazer: Oh yes, Casanova. We need to get moving.

Nathan Drake: Uh, wait, um, they're coming with us.

Chloe Frazer: You can't be serious.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I am. I can't just ditch them in the middle of this mess—

Chloe Frazer: They're only going to slow us down. And if we get caught—

Nathan Drake: Chloe—

Chloe Frazer: If Lazarević catches you and me together—

Chloe Frazer: You don't always have to play the bloody hero, you know.

Chloe Frazer: Nate.

Chloe Frazer: Just dance with the one who brought you, all right?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I get it. But they're still coming with us.

Elena Fisher: We don't need saving, Nate.

Chloe Frazer: Thank you.

Nathan Drake: You might want to rethink that...

Chloe Frazer: Shit. Run!

They're Coming With Us[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Look out!

Jeff Wynia: Ah, what's next?

Elena Fisher: You still doing this?

Nathan Drake: I don't ask for this trouble.

(After the fight.)
Chloe Frazer: Pretty good shot for a journalist.

Elena Fisher: I've had some practice.

Nathan Drake: Just keep moving.

(Upon pressing Triangle at the large door.)
Nathan Drake: Help me with this door. On three... one, two, three...

Nathan Drake: (groans) That's it.

Elena Fisher: Thanks.

(After the cutscene.)
Chloe Frazer: Great.

Jeff Wynia: Wh—How are we gonna get across?

Nathan Drake: There's a ladder on the far side.

Elena Fisher: Maybe we should swim across.

Nathan Drake: Current's too strong. We'll never make it.

(Upon shooting the propane tank.)
Elena Fisher: Nice.

Jeff Wynia: Good thinkin'!

Nathan Drake: Well, that'll get us halfway there.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
On-screen: Boost Chloe up the ladder

Chloe Frazer: Maybe we ought to climb up a little higher.

(Upon pressing Triangle at the nearby ledge.)
Nathan Drake: Come on, I'll boost you up.

(If Nate is in the way once Chloe kicks down the crate.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa! Hey, watch it!

(Upon throwing the propane tank.)
On-screen: After throwing a propane tank, quickly tap L1/R2 to shoot it

(Upon pressing Up after creating a path across.)
Elena Fisher: Think that'll do it.

Jeff Wynia: Let's go!

Nathan Drake: Pretty sweet, huh?

Chloe Frazer: Come on.

(Upon being shot at by the turret in the next area.)
Jeff Wynia: Woah!

Nathan Drake: Take cover!

Jeff Wynia: Shit! They're everywhere!

Elena Fisher: Jeff, get down!

Nathan Drake: We gotta take out that gun!

Chloe Frazer: We'll distract them. You see if you can flank them.

(After the fight.)
Jeff Wynia: Nice one!

Nathan Drake: Okay, we're all clear!

Jeff Wynia: Is it always like this with him?

Elena Fisher & Chloe Frazer: Pretty much.

(Upon climbing through the window after the blue rainpipe.)
Jeff Wynia: See anything up there?

Nathan Drake: C'mon, this way.

(Upon passing across the billboard.)
Chloe Frazer: Down below.

Nathan Drake: Those are resistance fighters.

Resistance fighter: (unintelligible)

Nathan Drake: Holy crap.

Elena Fisher: Did you see that?

Nathan Drake: Just c'mon, we have to hurry.

(Upon reaching the temple courtyard.)
Nathan Drake: All right. We should be safe in here.

Jeff Wynia: Whoa... cool.

The Temple[]

Nathan Drake: How 'bout that, huh?

Chloe Frazer: You brought us right to the doorstep.

Nathan Drake: (chuckles)

Elena Fisher: So I'm guessing it's not a coincidence that we ended up here.

Nathan Drake: Ah, no, not exactly.

Elena Fisher: God, you're an ass. Okay, just what is it you're after, anyways?

Nathan Drake: See that symbol up there? It's called the Cintamani Stone—

Chloe Frazer: Nate?

Nathan Drake: —it's a massive raw sapphire. It's worth millions.

Elena Fisher: So let me get this straight; you're competing with a psychopathic war criminal for a mythological gemstone.

Jeff Wynia: When you put it that way, it does sound pretty stupid.

Nathan Drake: Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Elena Fisher: And it's supposedly in this temple.

Nathan Drake: Well, no, the Stone itself isn't here.

Chloe Frazer: Hey, look at that.

Elena Fisher: No?

Nathan Drake: No, it's in Shambhala—

Elena Fisher: Shambhala?

Chloe Frazer: Nate.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, y'know, 'Shangri-La'—

Chloe Frazer: Can I have a word with you, darling?

Chloe Frazer: On second thought, perhaps we should continue this conversation inside.

Nathan Drake: Good idea. C'mon.

Nathan Drake: All right, we should be safe in here, for now.

Elena Fisher: This just doesn't add up, Nate... Lazarevic can't be after the money. He doesn't need it. You're missing something...

Chloe Frazer: Come on, we haven't got all day. You two stay here.

Nathan Drake: Promise me you'll stay put. We'll be right back.

Elena Fisher: Famous last words...

The City's Secret[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Chloe Frazer: (sighs) Well, that's more like it.

Nathan Drake: You don't think they're a couple, do you? They're not a couple.

Chloe Frazer: Ugh.

(Upon entering the main room.)
Chloe Frazer: Get a load of him...

Nathan Drake: This is definitely the right temple.

Chloe Frazer: Well, that looks like the Cintamani Stone all right.

Nathan Drake: There must be a hidden entrance here somewhere. Wait, I've seen this guy before.

(Upon opening your journal.)
On-screen: Push Lua error in Module:Icon at line 13: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value). left and right to flip pages

Nathan Drake: It's something to do with the arms...

(While she examines various objects around the room.)

Chloe Frazer
  • Wonder if there's any little keepsakes around here.
  • Hmm... this looks like it might be worth something.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: I gotta get up there. But how?

(Upon idling while still on the ground floor.)
Nathan Drake: Huh... Looks like the locals are still using this place.

Chloe Frazer: Hmm... not much left of those walkways up there...

(Upon climbing the pillar up to the walkway.)
Nathan Drake: Hang on... I'm gonna get a closer look at this thing.

Chloe Frazer: Sure, I'll just... wait down here.

(Upon turning the trident.)
Chloe Frazer: You sure that's right?

(Upon turning the trident again.)
Nathan Drake: Up... ya... go... How's that look?

Chloe Frazer: Well, how am I supposed to know? You've got the damn book.

(While climbing to the dorje.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh, I'm exhausted just looking at you.

(Upon turning the dorje.)
Chloe Frazer: Nice work.

(Upon reaching the bars to the other walkway.)
Nathan Drake: Okay... all right.

(Upon reaching the other side.)
Chloe Frazer: Nice one.

Nathan Drake: Thank you.

(Once the walkway collapses.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh!

Nathan Drake: Oh, God!

Chloe Frazer: God, you're lucky.

(While climbing the bar to the Phurba.)
Nathan Drake: All right, eh, come on, admit it. You're impressed.

Chloe Frazer: I am, I'll throw you a banana.

(After moving the arm holding the Phurba.)

Nathan Drake: (shouts)

Chloe Frazer: Whoa! You all right?

Nathan Drake: I'm okay. (groans)

(Once the 'Stone' opens up.)
Nathan Drake: Wait a minute...

Chloe Frazer: What is it?

Nathan Drake: Chloe, this isn't just a dagger. It's a key.

Chloe Frazer: Hmm... well, let's find out what it opens.

(Upon pressing Triangle to insert the Phurba.)
Nathan Drake: It's pretty creepy but... say 'ahhh'...

Nathan Drake: There... that do anything?

Chloe Frazer: The water's going down.

Chloe Frazer: And... I found the door it opened. We've done it!

Nathan Drake: Well, technically, I did it. Be right there.

(Upon rejoining Chloe.)
Chloe Frazer: Whaddya think? You game?

Nathan Drake: Ladies first.

Chloe Frazer: If you say so.

(Upon entering the passage.)
Nathan Drake: Hm, thank God I'm not claustrophobic.

(While going through the tunnel.)
Nathan Drake: You know, it's actually kinda romantic down here.

Chloe Frazer: All right... Where's the chocolates and flowers?

Nathan Drake: You never were a chocolate and flower kinda girl.

Chloe Frazer: Oh, you know me so well.

(While climbing the rubble.)
Chloe Frazer: You're not going to get us trapped in a small dark space thirty meters underground, are you?

Nathan Drake: Probably.

Nathan Drake: It's a little bit of a drop.

Chloe Frazer: All right, I'm comin'.

Chloe Frazer: Little drop?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, maybe I underestimated.

(Upon reaching the carving of the Tree of Life.)
Chloe Frazer: Whaddya make of this?

Nathan Drake: Looks like some kinda tree.

Chloe Frazer: And... what's that got to do with the Cintamani Stone?

Nathan Drake: Ya got me. Hmm...

(Upon reaching the ledge at the other side.)
Nathan Drake: It's opening up down here.

Chloe Frazer: Okay.

(After falling down the trap.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh, you have got to be kidding me!

Nathan Drake: Oh, c'mon, could be worse, right?

Nathan Drake: Okay, that's worse.

Chloe Frazer: Yeah, this is really romantic.

Nathan Drake: Spikes... I hate spikes.

Chloe Frazer: Okay, what now? Think!

Nathan Drake: We gotta get outta here.

(If you fail to destroy the trap in time.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh god, do some—

Upon picking up the MP40.)
Nathan Drake: Gun, great, I'll shoot the ceiling

(After dying once.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh, brilliant. What's that noise? Something's spinning.

(After dying thrice.)
Nathan Drake: Wait... that mechanism! I got an idea.

On-screen: Disrupt the mechanism

(If you break the spinning gear entirely.)
Nathan Drake: (laughs) We did it!

Chloe Frazer: Thank God.

Nathan Drake: Let's get the hell outta here.

Chloe Frazer: Sorry, my life is still flashing before me.

(Upon continuing through the tunnels.)
Nathan Drake: All right, come on, follow me.

Chloe Frazer: I'm hungry.

Path of Light[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Chloe Frazer: Bloody hell...

Nathan Drake: Well, this must be the place.

Chloe Frazer: Hey, that thing looks familiar.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, it looks like the Phurba dagger.

Chloe Frazer: Uh-huh.

Nathan Drake: These lights must activate it somehow.

(Upon approaching the mirrors.)
Nathan Drake: Those mirrors seem important.

(Upon adjusting the right mirror.) Nathan Drake: Huh. Nothin' happening here.

(Upon adjusting the left mirror.) Nathan Drake: Huh, this isn't accomplishing much.

Chloe Frazer: Maybe we can use the mirrors to bounce the light around.

(Upon properly adjusting the central mirror.)
Nathan Drake: We just have to bounce the light around the room.

(After twisting the first lock.)
Nathan Drake: Huh... let's see.

Chloe Frazer: I think that worked. It looks like it lowered the first blade into place.

Nathan Drake: One down, two to go.

Chloe Frazer: What do you reckon, we're gonna have to climb that thing?

Nathan Drake: I reckon I'm gonna have to climb that thing.

(While climbing the blade.)
Nathan Drake: Let's get up here and see if we can get a better look.

Chloe Frazer: Okay, be careful up there!

(Upon reaching the second blade.)
Chloe Frazer: Hey! Whatever you do... don't fall!

(While walking on-top of it.)
Nathan Drake: This seemed like such a good idea, down there.

(While climbing down to the lower walkway.)
Nathan Drake: There's more reflectors up here. Chloe!

Chloe Frazer: Yeah?

Nathan Drake: Adjust the other reflector!

Chloe Frazer: I'm on it!

Nathan Drake: Nice work!

Chloe Frazer: Okay, now what?

Nathan Drake: Hold on.

(Upon shining Chloe in the face using a mirror.)

Chloe Frazer
  • Hey!
  • Watch it!
  • Knock it off!

(Upon properly adjusting the second mirror.)
Chloe Frazer: Okay, I think we're getting close.

(After twisting the second lock.)
Nathan Drake: That did it.

Chloe Frazer: Yep, that's another one down.

Chloe Frazer: It looks like that blade opened up a new path. Just to your left.

Nathan Drake: Got it!

(Upon climbing the second blade.)
Nathan Drake: All right. One more blade to go!

(Upon stepping onto the last blade.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, don't look down, don't look down, don't look down...

(While partially across.)
Chloe Frazer: Nate!!

Nathan Drake: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

Chloe Frazer: Careful!

Nathan Drake: Now how am I gonna get that eye open?!

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after idling for too long.)
On-screen: Break open the third eye

(After shooting the eye cover.) Nathan Drake: Can't believe that worked!

(Upon approaching the final mirror.)
Nathan Drake: We just need to adjust that other reflector.

Chloe Frazer: On my way.

Nathan Drake: Good, that's it.

(Upon properly adjusting the third mirror.)
Nathan Drake: That did it.

(After twisting the third lock.)
Chloe Frazer: That's done it!

Nathan Drake: There it goes!

Chloe Frazer: Hey, it just opened something!

Nathan Drake: I'm comin' down.

(Upon rejoining Chloe at the revealed entrance.)
Chloe Frazer: So, the secret of Shambhala is down this guy's throat?

Nathan Drake: Uhh, I guess so.

X Marks the Spot[]

Nathan Drake: Whoa...

Chloe Frazer: That's amazing.

Nathan Drake: Chloe, I know where that is.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, it's right here. You see the shape of that peak, there?

Chloe Frazer: Uh-huh.

Nathan Drake: Here it is. Which means... Lemme use your back.

Nathan Drake: Which means...

Nathan Drake: ...the entrance to Shambhala must be right here. (chuckles)

Chloe Frazer: So, we did it.

Nathan Drake: We did it. Yesh. (chuckles) We did it.

Soldiers: (unintelligible)

Nathan Drake: Oh, crap.

Chloe Frazer: That kills the mood.

Chloe Frazer: There's only one way outta here, you ready?

Nathan Drake: Let's go.

Only One Way Out[]

(After she climbs out of the passage.)
Chloe Frazer: This isn't good.

(When the fighting starts.)
Nathan Drake: Ahh, shit. They must've gone right through Jeff and Elena. We've got to get back to the entrance.

Chloe Frazer: I'm a little more worried about us right now.

(Upon clearing the trap room.)
Chloe Frazer: Now's our chance! Let's get out of here!

Nathan Drake: We gotta hurry!

(Upon getting too close to the second armored shotgunner.)
Chloe Frazer: Nate! Get away from him!

(Upon defeating him.)
Chloe Frazer: I think the coast is clear, come on!

(While going through the temple entrance.)
Chloe Frazer: Oh, shit!

Nathan Drake: Where are they?

Chloe Frazer: I knew this would happen.

Elena Fisher: Nate, over here!

Nathan Drake: There they are! Stay down!

Chloe Frazer: Shit! Jeff and Elena are in trouble... there's a shock. Keep your heads down!

(Once the fight is over.)
Chloe Frazer: Let's move!

Walking Wounded[]

Nathan Drake: We better keep moving.

Elena Fisher: He's hit.

Jeff Wynia: I'm okay...

Nathan Drake: Lemme see.

Elena Fisher: (gasps)

Nathan Drake: All right, you're gonna be fine. All right, think you can stand?

Jeff Wynia: I think so...

Nathan Drake: All right, c'mon, I'll help you—

Nathan Drake: No, no, no—leave that. It's busted anyway. Here we go—up.

Jeff Wynia: (groans)

Elena Fisher: Nate—

Nathan Drake: He's fine, aren't you, chief? All right, get that door open.

Chloe Frazer: He's never gonna make it, we have to leave him!

Elena Fisher: What?! No—

Nathan Drake: Get the door open, Chloe!

Chloe Frazer: You're going to get us all killed!

Keep Moving[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: All right, buddy, let's go.

Chloe Frazer: Shit!

(After she kicks the door open.)
Chloe Frazer: C'mon!

Elena Fisher: Go, Nate! I'll cover you!

(If you don't go through.)
Elena Fisher: Hey! In here!

(Upon going through.)
Chloe Frazer: Okay, we gotta get outta here. Let's go!

Nathan Drake: Elena, barricade the door!

Elena Fisher: Got it!

(Upon exiting the building.)
Nathan Drake: C'mon!

Chloe Frazer: Nate, we can't do this.

Nathan Drake: Just go!

Chloe Frazer: Woah!

(When Chloe gets grabbed by a soldier.)
Elena Fisher: (gasps) Look out!

(Upon killing the soldier.)
Chloe Frazer: Ahh, that was close.

(While going through the next alley.)
Elena Fisher: C'mon Jeff, you can make it.

Nathan Drake: You're gonna be okay Jeff, you're gonna be okay... stay with me.

(Once the truck blocks the way through.)

Nathan Drake: Holy shit!

Elena Fisher: C'mon, this way!

Nathan Drake: Heads up! Elena!

Elena Fisher: I'm okay!

(Once another truck appears.)
Nathan Drake: Chloe get outta there!

Elena Fisher: Hey, over here!

Nathan Drake: Don't give up now. C'mon.

(Once yet another truck blocks them off.)
Elena Fisher: Go, go, go!

Nathan Drake: Ah, you gotta be joking!

(While going up the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: All this effort, you'd think I've known you longer huh?

Cornered[]

Elena Fisher: Oh, shit!

Chloe Frazer: That's all right. We can make that.

Elena Fisher: He can't.

Nathan Drake: Oh no you don't...

Chloe Frazer: We don't have a choice.

Jeff Wynia: I can't...

Nathan Drake: C'mon, Jeff.

Chloe Frazer: Nate—Okay, you tried, but it's over. He can't go any further.

Nathan Drake: We can't just leave him here to die!

Chloe Frazer: He is as good as dead already, and so are we if we don't go now!

Nathan Drake: Then go!

Elena Fisher: Yeah, nobody's stopping you!

Nathan Drake: Chloe—

Chloe Frazer: I was trying to save your skin, you idiot!

Soldier 1: Up this way!

Harry Flynn: Chloe? What is this?

Soldier 2: Up the stairs!

Chloe Frazer: I'm sorry...

Harry Flynn: Drop the guns. Seriously.

Harry Flynn: Get her out of here, she's hurt. Take her to the train. Unbelievable. You just can't help yourself, can you?

Nathan Drake: Guess that makes us even.

Harry Flynn: Not quite.

Zoran Lazarević: So, this little man is Drake, hm?

Zoran Lazarević: Did you carry him all the way from the temple? Shame.

Elena Fisher: No—!

Zoran Lazarević: (laughs) Now. Tell me what you found in the temple.

Nathan Drake: The answer that you're looking for. Okay? I know where the Stone is. But you're not gonna find it without me. So just, just let her go, and I will lead you right to it.

Zoran Lazarević: Ah. My shadow. You are the reporter who's been biting at my heels. You better pray that he is not bluffing. Search him.

Harry Flynn: C'mon...

Harry Flynn: (chuckles) That is brilliant, mate. Here.

Zoran Lazarević: It appears you have nothing to bargain with, Mr. Drake. Return to the staging ground. Prepare to move out. You come with me. You... take care of them.

Harry Flynn: No problem.

Elena Fisher: How can you work for that monster?

Harry Flynn: Beats working against him, love.

Nathan Drake: So that's it, huh? You're just going to mow us down in cold blood.

Harry Flynn: Looks that way, doesn't it? Get up. I said get up.

Elena Fisher: Run!

Harry Flynn: Stop them!

Gameplay (continued)[]

Nathan Drake: Go, go!

Harry Flynn: You son of a bitch! You won't get far!

(After jumping over the railing.)
Nathan Drake: You all right?

Elena Fisher: Yeah.

(After turning the corner.)
Nathan Drake: Keep goin', keep goin'.

Elena Fisher: They're awfully close, Nate!

(After being fired upon with RPGs.)
Nathan Drake: Watch out! Elena, don't stop!

Elena Fisher: Go, go, go!

(Upon being blocked off by a truck.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, shit!

(Upon reaching the alley's end.)
Nathan Drake: Hurry!

(As he jumps across the gap.)
Nathan Drake: Up this way!

(Upon reaching the top.)
Elena Fisher: Nate!

Nathan Drake: What are you doin'? Come on!

Elena Fisher: I can't make that!

(Upon pressing Triangle.)
Nathan Drake: Elena, come on, you gotta jump!

Nathan Drake: I gotcha!

Nathan Drake: C'mon!

Honor Among Thieves[]

Nathan Drake: This way!

Nathan Drake: Get down!

Nathan Drake: You all right?

Elena Fisher: Yeah, never better. You?

Nathan Drake: Nothing that won't heal. Okay...

Elena Fisher: Oh God...

Nathan Drake: ...I think we lost 'em.

Nathan Drake: I never should have got you into this mess.

Elena Fisher: You didn't. I got here on my own.

Nathan Drake: Nah, I mean, you know, the rest of it.

Elena Fisher: We knew what the stakes were.

Elena Fisher: Okay, so uh, what do we do now?

Nathan Drake: I'm going after her.

Elena Fisher: Of course you are... typical. Go after her.

Nathan Drake: Flynn said something about a train. Which means they would have taken her to the rail yard... here.

Nathan Drake: So it should be that way, past the water tower there.

Elena Fisher: Nate, she pulled a gun on us.

Nathan Drake: I know.

Elena Fisher: She was about to pull the trigger, too. They just beat her to it.

Nathan Drake: It's complicated.

Elena Fisher: Yeah, I'll bet.

Nathan Drake: Flynn knew she was with me. If Lazarević finds out she double-crossed them, you know what he'll do to her...

Elena Fisher: Yeah, I've seen his handiwork.

Nathan Drake: Then you know I don't really have much of a choice.

Elena Fisher: Honor among thieves, huh?

Nathan Drake: Something like that.

Elena Fisher: I sure hope you know what you're doing.

Nathan Drake: I don't have the faintest idea.

Elena Fisher: Good to know that some things just never change. Okay. Let's go.

Nathan Drake: What? Oh, no no no no—you're not coming with me.

Elena Fisher: Nate, shut up, okay? We have a train to catch.

A Train to Catch[]

(At the start of the chapter.)

Nathan Drake: There's the water tower.

Elena Fisher: Right behind you.

(Upon coming nearer the soldiers.)
Soldier: Spread out, pick them off!

Nathan Drake: Wait here.

Elena Fisher: They're everywhere, be careful.

Nathan Drake: I always am.

(After a short time.)
Nathan Drake: Gotta get a gun.

(Upon picking up a gun.)
Nathan Drake: Now we're cookin'.

(Upon clearing out all the soldiers.)
Nathan Drake: It's all clear.

Elena Fisher: All right, let's head to that water tower.

Nathan Drake: Gotta find a way up there. Were you impressed? Got all those guys by myself?

Elena Fisher: I don't know if I'd use the word impressed.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
On-screen: Boost Elena to the fire escape

(Upon pressing Triangle at the fire escape.)
Elena Fisher: See anything?

Nathan Drake: There's a fire escape up here, but I can't reach it.

Elena Fisher: All right, just wait up a sec.

(Once she gets to Nate.)
Elena Fisher: Okay.

Nathan Drake: Once you're up there, just kick it down to me.

Elena Fisher: There ya go.

Elena Fisher: Hey, look what I found.

(When she reaches the locked gate.)
Elena Fisher: Here we go.

(When Nate does as well.)
Nathan Drake: What's the matter? Is it locked?

Elena Fisher: Ah, it's stuck. Y'know what? I think it's blocked from the other side.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: All right, I'll try to find another way around. And unstuck it.

Elena Fisher: Good idea.

(Upon jumping to the sign.)
Elena Fisher: All those years in the circus are paying off.

Nathan Drake: Very funny. I may be from the circus, but you're the one behind bars. (laughs)

Elena Fisher: (laughs)

(Upon shooting each plank in sequence.)
Nathan Drake: Stand back.

Elena Fisher: Almost!

Nathan Drake: There we go. Try it now!

Elena Fisher: Okay!

(Once she gets through the gate.)
Elena Fisher: Now I'm impressed. Oh, no. Hey, we got company!

Nathan Drake: Crap.

Elena Fisher: They're up there on the left! Up there on the right!

Nathan Drake: Left, they're right, they're everywhere!

(Upon shooting the propane tank.)
Elena Fisher: Nice!

(After eliminating the first wave of soldiers.)
Elena Fisher: Hey, there's more sneakin' up!

(After eliminating the second wave of soldiers.)
Nathan Drake: Got 'em. I think that's all of 'em!

Elena Fisher: Oh no. Look out behind us!

Nathan Drake: These guys don't quit! C'mon...

Elena Fisher: I got you covered over here!

(Upon defeating all soldiers.)
Elena Fisher: Hey, I'll lower this walkway for ya!

Nathan Drake: All right.

(Once it is lowered.)
Nathan Drake: Think I can make it.

(Upon making the jump.)
Elena Fisher: Perfect.

Nathan Drake: Ah, not bad for 'last year's model.'

Elena Fisher: Been waitin' to use that.

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after idling for too long.)
On-screen: Get to the water tower

(Upon climbing up to the water tower.)
Elena Fisher: Nice, we're at the water tower.

Nathan Drake: Yep, we made it. All right, stay low.

Scoping the Railyard[]

Elena Fisher: So, you got a plan 'B'?

Nathan Drake: I'm working on it.

Nathan Drake: There she is.

Nathan Drake: Flynn's got her.

Elena Fisher: Second thoughts?

Nathan Drake: No. Okay. They're about to take this show on the road, so we're gonna have to move fast. Now I'm going down there alone—

Elena Fisher: Nate—

Nathan Drake: Wait, wait, wait—just listen. You never listen. Meanwhile, you're going to go over there, snag us one of those nice-looking—

Elena Fisher: —4x4s.

Nathan Drake: —4x4s. You're gonna be the wheelman. I'll sneak in, I'll grab Chloe, and you come in right behind us—

Elena Fisher: —with the getaway car.

Nathan Drake: —with the getaway car.

Elena Fisher: Yep, got it. Got it?

Nathan Drake: I got it.

Elena Fisher: Go.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After Elena jumps across the gap.)
Nathan Drake: You all right?

Elena Fisher: Whoa... yeah...

Nathan Drake: All right, be careful.

Elena Fisher: All right... I'll see ya when... well, when I see ya...

Nathan Drake: Ah, she's taking the easy way down.

(After ziplining down into the railyard.)
Nathan Drake: (sigh) I love the smell of train yards in the morning.

(After pushing the cart out of the way.)
Nathan Drake: That'll do it.

(Upon entering the warehouse.)
Nathan Drake: Okay.

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after idling for too long.)
On-screen: Find a way to smash through the wooden door

(Upon climbing onto the wagon.)
Nathan Drake: Let's get up here for a better look.

(Upon looking out the window using Up.)
Nathan Drake: There's the train. How the hell am I gonna get down there?

(Upon reaching the second wagon.)
Nathan Drake: There's gotta be a way outta here.

(Upon entering the third wagon.)
Nathan Drake: Maybe I can get this old thing moving.

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after idling for too long.)
On-screen: Pull the lever in the train car

(After moving the handbrake lever.)
Nathan Drake: Uh-oh, I didn't think this through.

Nathan Drake: Way to go, Nate. That didn't attract too much attention.

(Progressively during the firefight, as more time passes.)

Nathan Drake
  • Oh no.
  • You assholes are gonna make me miss my train!
  • C'mon, Elena.
  • Damn it, the train's gone.
  • Aw, c'mon Elena, where are you?
  • Stop shooting me!

(When the truck appears.)
Nathan Drake: Well, I suppose it couldn't get any worse.

(When the two brutes jump out.)
Nathan Drake: Shit! Oh, this is all I need, Twiddledee and Twiddledummer. Train's gone, Chloe's on it. Elena's nowhere to be found. Now these two mutants show up.

(Once Elena appears.)
Elena Fisher: Nate!

Nathan Drake: It's about time!

All Aboard[]

Elena Fisher: Get in!

Elena Fisher: Hurry!

Nathan Drake: Go! Go!

Elena Fisher: So... you got a 'plan C'?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, floor it!

Elena Fisher: What?!

Nathan Drake: I'm getting on that train!

Elena Fisher: What, are you crazy?!

Nathan Drake: Just get me close enough to jump.

Elena Fisher: Guess that answers that question.

Nathan Drake: Step on it!

Elena Fisher: So how do you plan on getting her off that speeding train?

Nathan Drake: I haven't thought that far ahead.

Elena Fisher: 'Course not.

Nathan Drake: Okay... okay, here we go—

Elena Fisher: No, hold on, hold on... Almost there... Just—Now! Jump!

Locomotion[]

(Upon nearing the front of the car.)
Nathan Drake: They must have Chloe in the front car.

(After taking out all the soldiers prior to the locked door.)
Nathan Drake: Sorry boys, just needed to punch your tickets.

(After kicking the locked door.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, damn it. It's locked. I gotta find another way forward.

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after idling for too long.)
On-screen: Find a way around the locked door

(Upon nearing the car with the turret, provided it is active.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, man. Not gettin' through that way. That thing'll cut me to pieces.

(Upon eliminating all soldiers at the turret.)
Nathan Drake: Someone will be along to take your drink order.

(Upon dying too many times to the signals.) On-screen: Hang off the side of the train to avoid the signals

(Once the train nears one of the overhead signal bars, provided Nate is on the roof.)
Nathan Drake: Uh-oh.

(Once it passes by.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa.

(Once the next set of bars comes up and is about to knock a pair of soldiers off.)
Nathan Drake: Heads up!

(After it does.)
Nathan Drake: Goodnight, boys!

(Upon finding the car with the tank.)
Nathan Drake: A tank? What the hell do they need a tank for?

(Once the train nears one of the sideways signal poles, provided Nate is hanging from the side.)
Nathan Drake: Uh-oh.

(After Nate falls through a car's roof.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, shit. What's that noise?

(Once the helicopter appears.)
Nathan Drake: Aww... no way!

(After it fires at Nate's car.)
Nathan Drake: I gotta get off this thing!

(Once the next group of soldiers jumps down from the cargo container to attack Nate.)
Nathan Drake: Don't you assholes see the helicopter? I got enough trouble already.

(While on the container as it passes underneath another set of signal bars.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, I am so over this shit. Give it a rest already!

(After jumping into the empty green container car, as the helicopter maneuvers directly behind it.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, God!

(After shooting it, scaring it away.)
Nathan Drake: I gotta get out of here.

(While rotating the door valve, as the helicopter takes position to shoot again.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, shit.

(As Nate is about to be hit by the crashing car, right when the train enters the tunnel.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, no no no—(laughs) Thank God for tunnels, heh.

Tunnel Vision[]

(Upon kicking the second locked door.)
Nathan Drake: Damn it, have to find another way.

(Upon pressing the Up prompt after idling for too long.)
On-screen: Climb out through the skylight

(After climbing onto the roof.)
Draza: After him!

Soldier 1: Move it!

Soldier 2: Take him out!

Nathan Drake: Here they come!

(Upon climbing onto the roof of the first car.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, I could use a jacket.

(Upon jumping onto the roof of the second car.)
Nathan Drake: Shit, it's freezin'.

(Upon nearing the flatbed wagons with the parked trucks.)
Nathan Drake: Agh! This train goes forever!

(Upon climbing onto the first truck.)
Draza: Take him out!

Nathan Drake: Ah, no, not one of those mutants.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, if you don't shoot the clasps.)
Nathan Drake: Damn it, it's too well-armored. If I aim for those claps, this guy's toast.

On-screen: Shoot the clasps

(Upon properly shooting both of the clasps.)
Nathan Drake: See ya, asshole!

Draza: Send in the gunship.

Nathan Drake: Ah, shit. Not you again.

(While running away from the helicopter.)
Nathan Drake: I hate helicopters!

(Upon nearing the flatbed with the armored car.)
Nathan Drake: How the hell am I supposed to take out a—hell—o?

(Upon mounting its turret.)
Nathan Drake: Time to fight fire with fire.

(Once it fires several missiles at you.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, that's not good!

(Once it fires several missiles at you, again.)
Nathan Drake: Uh-oh, that's not good.

(Upon dealing enough damage to the helicopter.)
Nathan Drake: Yeeaah!

(After the gunship crashes.)
Nathan Drake: Enjoy the ride down, asshole!

(Upon taking cover when Draza shoots at you.)
Nathan Drake: Ugh, I'm so tired of this guy!

(While going through the train cars.)
Nathan Drake: Chloe can't be too far ahead.

Nathan jumps across to the next train car where Draza is waiting.

Draza: Enough. You won't get past me!

Nathan Drake: No, I'll just go through you!

Here Goes Nothing[]

Nathan Drake: This is mine, jerkweed...

Nathan Drake: All right...

Nathan Drake: (laughs) Saved my ass again. Are you all right?

Chloe Frazer: Get off the train, Nate.

Nathan Drake:What are you talking about?

Nathan Drake: D'you have any idea what I've been through—

Chloe Frazer: I never asked for any of your bloody heroics.

Nathan Drake: Chloe, come on, we don't have time for this.

Chloe Frazer: You're right. So get off the train—while you still can.

Nathan Drake: And leave you with them.

Chloe Frazer: You made your choice.

Nathan Drake: What did you expect me to do?

Chloe Frazer: I expected you to have my back!

Nathan Drake: I had your back!

Chloe Frazer: How could you possibly, with the other two on yours?!

Nathan Drake: Well, good luck with Flynn! You deserve each other. Y'know, I can't believe that y—

Chloe Frazer: No...

Harry Flynn: You just don't know when to quit, do you? What? No witty remark? Nothing clever to say?

Chloe Frazer: Harry don't! No!

Harry Flynn: Oh no you don't!

Chloe Frazer: Stop! Just let him go!

Harry Flynn: Put him out of his misery!

Nathan Drake: Here goes nothin'...

Train Wrecked[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Sure, be the hero, rescue Chloe. Brilliant.

(If Nate holds on to the left ledge.)
Nathan Drake: (screams)

Nathan Drake: Bad idea.

(Upon climbing around to the bottom.)
Nathan Drake: Oh , what was I thinkin'?

(After being knocked back down once.)
Nathan Drake: Be a lot easier just to let go.

(After dodging the second falling rock.)
Nathan Drake: oh come on! How 'bout a break?

(Upon climbing the longer bar.)
Nathan Drake: Gotta be a big hero, don'tcha?

(As it snaps off.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa. (sighs) Stupid.

(Upon reaching the roof side.)
Nathan Drake: They don't build 'em like they used to.

(While he exits out the side again.)
Nathan Drake: Oh... shit... What else could go wrong?

(Upon climbing the second longer bar.)
Nathan Drake: Hope this one holds.

(Upon reaching the top end of the car.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, man, I'm so tired of climbing shit.

(Upon jumping onto the second car.)
Nathan Drake: That's not a good sign.

(While running through it.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, shit.

(After reaching the clifftop.)
Nathan Drake: Terra firma.....

Back Where We Started[]

Nathan Drake: Ah, crap. Here we go...

Gameplay (continued)[]

(At the start of the fight, and then subsequently shortly after another if no combat occurs.)
Soldier 1: Find the dagger!

Soldier 2: Search the wreckage!

Soldier 3: He has to be here somewhere!

(Upon being spotted.)
Soldier: He's alive!

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, after the initial soldiers have been killed.)
Soldier 1: He's still alive!

Soldier 2: He's alive!

Nathan Drake: Bring it on!

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, after the second wave of soldiers have been killed.)
Nathan Drake: The more the merrier.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, after the final wave of soldiers have been killed.)
Nathan Drake: Wait... I can climb out over there." (If the player use vision)

(Upon reaching the ledge.)
Nathan Drake: I either gonna bleed out or I'm gonna climb out.

(Upon climbing up on the ledge.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, shit it's cold.

Brought in from the Cold[]

Nathan Drake: (gasps)

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Pema, give him some space. GO to Schäfer's, he's our friend.)

Nathan Drake: How did I get here?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Slow down, you wont be able to work for some time.)

Nathan Drake: Okay...

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (You’re lucky you didn’t die.)

Nathan Drake: How long have I been out?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Here, drink, drink.)

Nathan Drake: Thanks. (coughs)

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (You have to drink this.)

Nathan Drake: No, no, no—that's, that's plenty.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Your friend is waiting to meet you. Can you stand up?)

Nathan Drake: I'm sorry... I don't understand...

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Stand up.)

Nathan Drake: What...?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Stand up, stand up.)

Nathan Drake: Oh... Thanks.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Are you feeling okay?)

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Take this, come. Schäfer has been waiting for you.)

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (He's been waiting to talk to you.)

Nathan Drake: Where the hell am I?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Come, come with me.)

Where Am I?[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Huh, guess I'm supposed to follow him.

(Upon entering the house across Tenzin's.)
Nathan Drake: Huh, quaint.

(Upon approaching the couple.)
Male villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Female villager: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon interacting with them.)
Nathan Drake: Morning. Ah, does anyone speak English?

(Upon approaching the first yak.)
Nathan Drake: Hey, moo... heh. I don't s'pose you speak English, do ya?

(Upon interacting with a yak.)

Nathan Drake
  • Hey, how are ya fella?
  • Hey, how ya doin' pal?

(Upon interacting with a yak's behind.)

Nathan Drake
  • Ohh, stupid.
  • Ohh, real smooth Nate.
  • Ohh, that's not right.
  • Ugh, why would I do that?

(Upon greeting any of the wandering villagers, the villagers always reply in Tibetan.)

Nathan Drake
  • Hi.
  • Morning.
  • How are ya?
  • Nathan Drake.
  • Good to see ya.
  • Yes, hi, nice to see you.

(Upon approaching the wooden fence on the right, past the yak.)
Nathan Drake: Where the hell am I?

(Upon approaching the chicken flock.)
Female villager: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon approaching the wooden fence on the left.)
Nathan Drake: Let's see if we can get our bearings. Okay, those are... mountains.

(Upon letting Tenzin wait.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon approaching a waiting Tenzin.)
Nathan Drake: I got it, follow you. Go somewhere.

(As Tenzin opens the gate.)
Nathan Drake: Nice boots.

(Upon walking past the farmer.)
Nathan Drake: 'Scuse me. 'Scuse me.

Male villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: What?

(Upon walking up the wooden staircase on the right.)
Nathan Drake: Let's see what's up this way.

(Upon entering the grassy area to the right of the two kids playing with the ball.)
Nathan Drake: One of these houses has to have a telephone.

(Upon entering the nearby house through the hatch in the ceiling.)
Nathan Drake: Telephone, telephone, damn it, where's the telephone?

(Upon approaching the pair of villagers next to the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: 'Scuse me, gentlemen. Hi. Ah, d'you have a cell phone by any chance?

(Upon approaching the two children with the ball.)
Boy villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Girl villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Oh, there you go. Want to kick the ball?

(Upon kicking the ball over.) Nathan Drake: Here ya go, get it.

Child villagers: (giggles)

Nathan Drake: Kick it back. C'mon, kick it back. Kick it. K-kick. Forget it.

(Upon approaching the mother berating her child.)
Female villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Boy villager: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon interacting with them.)
Nathan Drake: You listen to your mom, okay? Be a good boy.

(As Tenzin waits alongside a male villager.)
Male villager: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon approaching the two men looking at the mountains.)
Nathan Drake: Gentlemen, do you speak English?

Male villager 1: (speaking Tibetan)

Male villager 2: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon approaching the potter.)
Male villager: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon approaching the two kids hiding behind a wall.)
Nathan Drake: I see you two hiding.

(Upon interacting with them.)
Nathan Drake: Boo!

(Upon letting Tenzin wait at the house.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Schäfer's Story[]

Elena Fisher: (speaking Tibetan)

Pema: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Just when I thought I had nothing left to lose...

Elena Fisher: Nate! Oh thank God you're all right.

Nathan Drake: Agh!

Elena Fisher: I'm sorry. I—

Nathan Drake: That's all right... Elena, tell me you have some idea of what's going on here—I mean, how long have I been here?

Elena Fisher: Only a few days. I followed the tracks to the wreckage, what the hell happened?

Nathan Drake: You were right about Chloe. Turns out she wasn't exactly looking out to be rescued.

Elena Fisher: Wait, did she do that?

Nathan Drake: No. No, I have Flynn to thank for this.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Elena Fisher: (speaking Tibetan) C'mon, there's somebody who's anxious to meet you.

Karl Schäfer: So, our mysterious guest awakes.

Elena Fisher: Nate, this is Karl Schäfer.

Karl Schäfer: How are you feeling?

Nathan Drake: Good, thanks.

Karl Schäfer: Good, good, please, sit. It appears you and I have much in common, Mr. Drake.

Nathan Drake: Is that so?

Karl Schäfer: Yes, seventy years ago, I came here just like you, carried into the village, near death, the last survivor of my company. I was hired to lead an expedition into Tibet, to find the entrance to Shambhala. What they really wanted was the Cintamani Stone. So, my friend, where did you find this?

Nathan Drake: Borneo. Why?

Elena Fisher: This is the key to Shambhala.

Karl Schäfer: It's the one object your opponent desperately needs—even if he does not know it yet.

Nathan Drake: Oh, I think he knows. Look, I'm very grateful for everything you've done for me. I really am. But I'm through with all this.

Karl Schäfer: So, they have beaten you, eh? Your quest is over?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, that's right.

Karl Schäfer: What if it's only beginning?

Nathan Drake: Where did you find this guy?

Karl Schäfer: Trust me, young man, your ego will mend. You're just lucky to be alive.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, y'know, people are always telling me how lucky I am. But the truth is, everything I touch turns to shit.

Elena Fisher: Nate...

Nathan Drake: No, Elena, I'm done. Now c'mon. I'm through playing the hero.

Karl Schäfer: Your adversary will not give up so easily. He will not stop until he possesses the thing he desires.

Nathan Drake: Oh yeah? Well, more power to him.

Karl Schäfer: Power is precisely the problem. Heh. Some of the most fearsome rulers through history have possessed only a fragment of the Cintamani Stone. Men like Tamerlane, Genghis Khan... If a mere sliver could bestow such power, what would a man become if he possessed the Stone itself?

Nathan Drake: This is crazy.

Elena Fisher: It's got to be what he's after, Nate.

Nathan Drake: Then Lazarević really is a nut job. He's chasing a myth.

Elena Fisher: And what if he's not?

Nathan Drake: Elena, c'mon—

Elena Fisher: I mean, what if it's true? We've seen what he's capable of...

Karl Schäfer: I understand your doubt. You require proof, something you can see with your own eyes. Tenzin... (speaking Tibetan) Find the remains of my expedition, and you will have your proof. Tenzin will guide you.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: I hope I live to regret this.

Elena Fisher: Just come back in one piece.

Nathan Drake: I suppose you speak any English, do you, pal?

Nathan Drake: Well, this looks inviting. What's it say?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Why do I ask?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: I'm not so good with charades, pal...

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Wait... Tenzin! Why do you need that?

Mountaineering[]

(When Tenzin finds the rope.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Ahah, this will be useful.)

Nathan Drake: Oh man, there's no way we're getting across there. What you got there?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (We will use this to go there.)

Nathan Drake: What?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, good luck pal, that's almost impossible to—oh, you did it. Nice.

Nathan Drake: Sure, let's just swing across on the seventy year old rope.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(After jumping across.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: I hope you know where you're going, buddy...

(After climbing down the ladder.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Oh, we have to go through here, it looks hard.)

Nathan Drake: Exactly. That's what I was thinking.

(Upon running into the split in the wall.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, jeez...

(Upon entering a more open cave.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon climbing down.)
Nathan Drake: Looks like we're on the right track, but there is nothing here... this can't be what Schäfer meant.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (We need to go deeper into the cave.)

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (That way.)

Nathan Drake: Oh, that way, sure... Those things bite, you know.

(Upon entering a much larger cave.)
Nathan Drake: Hey, what's the big hurry? Hello? These are snow boots, not track shoes.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: More wolves... fantastic.

(Upon joining up with Tenzin at the corpse.)
Nathan Drake: What'd you find?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (He must be Schäfer's man.)

Nathan Drake: He's been dead a long time.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Look at this.)

Nathan Drake: The Cintamani Stone—must've been one of Schäfer's men.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Wha—?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (We were so screwed.)

(Upon pressing Triangle at the broken rope ladder.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin, c'mon.

Nathan Drake: All right. I'll give you a boost.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (I don't need it.)

Nathan Drake: What?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (In fact, I'll give you a boost.)

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I still don't speak that... (sighs) Me first, huh? Okay...

(Upon pressing Triangle after reaching the other side.)
Nathan Drake: C'mon, I'll catch you!

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: I got you. (grunts) Ah, there you go. You owe me one, pal.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(After making the rope jump.)
Nathan Drake: (screams)

Nathan Drake: Okay we're even.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Nothing happened, I'm here.)

(Upon hearing the wolves being slain.)
Nathan Drake: What the hell was that?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (I don't know.)

(Upon finding the slain wolves.)
Nathan Drake: Holy shit...

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: What did this?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: This—what did this?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (The way the animal was killed, it's deadly.)

Nathan Drake: Yeah... c'mon.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (It's not good.)

Nathan Drake: Tenzin, we gotta get moving.

(Upon entering another much larger open cave.)
Nathan Drake: What was that?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (It's not good.)

Nathan Drake: All right, just stay here. Here. Wait.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (This place might have a ghost.)

(After passing underneath the icicles.)
Nathan Drake: (gasp) Shit.

(Upon picking up the P08 - 9mm.)<
Nathan Drake: Hey, Schäfer says hello. Let's hope this is loaded.

(After shooting the icicle wall.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Oh my God! What is that?

Nathan Drake: Tenzin!

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Help me!)

(After freeing yourself from the Guardian once.)
Nathan Drake: Agh! This thing won't go down!

(Once it knocks your gun away.)
Nathan Drake: Shit!

Nathan Drake: What the hell was that thing?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (I told you, there was a weird ghost.)

(Upon pressing Triangle at the broken rope ladder.)
Nathan Drake: C'mere, I'll boost you up there.

Nathan Drake: Hm. Now how am I gonna get up there?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) (Watch out.)

(Upon reaching the next corpse.)
Nathan Drake: Huh, these guys were dropping like flies.

(After shooting the crate.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, that'll work.

(Upon finding the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: Stairs? Huh, must be getting somewhere.

Heart of Ice[]

(Upon entering the main chamber.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa...

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: Whaddya bet we need to get to that statue?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon standing on the right switch.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin, come here.

(Upon standing on the left switch.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin, stand on that other switch.

(After Tenzin lowers your wall.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Huh, it's easy for you to say.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted at the cylinders.)
Nathan Drake: I bet I could climb those if they were a little lower.

(Upon looking down below, off the edge.)
Nathan Drake: Looks like there's a switch down there.

(Upon pulling the lever.)
Nathan Drake: Ah-ha.

Nathan Drake: Tenzin, pull that switch!

Nathan Drake: Now we're talkin'.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted at the wooden cross-section.)
Nathan Drake: Sure, Tenzin, take the easy way.

(Upon reaching the second lever.)
Nathan Drake: (sighs) Finally.

Nathan Drake: Tenzin, it's a bridge! Pull the switch on your side!

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: No! No, no... Agh... Uh-oh...

Nathan Drake: Ah, great. Now how am I gonna get across?

(Upon climbing down the ladder.)
Nathan Drake: (sigh) Gotta get over there somehow, well, guess I'm doing it the hard way.

(After making your way past the gears.)
Nathan Drake: All right, now what?

(Upon sighting Tenzin again.)
Nathan Drake: There he is. Hey! Tenzin!

(After stepping on the switch.)
Nathan Drake: You have got to be kidding.

(Once Tenzin saves you from falling.)
Nathan Drake: Good reflexes...

Nathan Drake: Wow... So... is that a good sign?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Prior to entering the room behind the statue.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

What Would a Man Become?[]

Nathan Drake: Let's hope there's another way out of here...

Tenzin: Drake (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan walks over to Tenzin. There are several dead bodies around the room.

Nathan Drake: This must be them... Schäfer's expedition.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: The Cintamani Stone...

Nathan Drake: Huh... more resin.

Nathan Drake: Hello... would you look at this...

Nathan Drake: These men were all shot.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Uh, that's the Irminsul, it's the Life Tree...

Nathan Drake: The Ahnenerbe...? Oh, Jesus, they were SS.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Nazis.

Tenzin: Nazis... (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: What would a man become...? Tenzin, Schäfer did this.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Schäfer... killed them.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Yes. It was the only way to stop them.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Oh, shit.

Nathan Drake: We have to find a way outta here—now.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(Upon climbing the stairs to the lever.)
Nathan Drake: Hey, there's a switch.

(Upon pulling it.)
Nathan Drake: Haha! There you go.

Nathan Drake: Oh crap...

Nathan Drake: Heads up!

(Once the elevator reaches the bottom.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin, the elevator's down! Jump for it!

(Upon pressing the Up prompt, upon taking too long.)
On-screen: Get to the platform

(After reaching the platform.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Tenzin, look out!

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Jump! I'll shoot the switch from here!

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: C'mon, I got you. Okay... Okay, we made it...

Nathan Drake: We're almost out...

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Crap!

This is our Fault[]

Nathan Drake: You okay?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Oh no... Tenzin.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan) Pema!

Nathan Drake: Thank God...

Elena Fisher: Oh, Nate...

Nathan Drake: What happened?

Elena Fisher: It's Lazarevic. They found us.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Elena Fisher: I don't know, I don't know... Schäfer's got her.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Elena Fisher: (speaking Tibetan)

Tenzin: Schäfer.

Elena Fisher: They went the other way.

Nathan Drake: All right...

Elena Fisher: Nate, this is our fault. We did this.

Nathan Drake: All right, just stay here. You keep them safe.

Nathan Drake: Come on.

Siege[]

(Upon going outside.)
Nathan Drake: Get back inside! Get inside!

(After the doorway to Tenzin's house gets blown up.)
Nathan Drake: Not goin' that way.

(Upon taking too long to follow Tenzin.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon still taking too long to follow Tenzin.)
Tenzin: Nate, (speaking Tibetan)

(When he is about to enter his house.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, if you take too long to follow him.)
On-screen: Hurry to Tenzin's house

(When he enters his house.)
Tenzin: Pema! (speaking Tibetan)

(After he climbs to the second floor.)
Tenzin: Pema! Pema? Pema!

Jump![]

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: What?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Tenzin: Schäfer... (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Holy shit!

Nathan Drake: Oh crap. Jump! Jump!

Cat and Mouse[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Why would he bring a tank?

(After it blows up the wall.)
Nathan Drake: Holy crap!

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Tenzin, let's go!

(Once they reach the door.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin, get that door open!

(Once he gets it open.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon being shot at when out in the open again.)
Nathan Drake: This way!

(After he makes it past the building.)
Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(While ascending the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: How am I supposed to take a tank out?

(upon crossing the bridge.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, shit...

(While running away.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin! RPG? RPG! What's Tibetan for RPG?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(While jumping over the tank.)
Nathan Drake: Ohh, shit!

(Upon removing the blockage.)
Nathan Drake: Go.

(After being knocked down by the tank.)
Nathan Drake: ...Oh God... oh no, no, no, no!

(While following the dirt path.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin! Tenzin, where are you?! Ahhh, where the hell did he go?

(Upon attempting to use the main street.)
Nathan Drake: I better go around.

(While going across the cliff path.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin! Where the hell did he go?

(Once the tank nearly drives off of the cliff.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa... What is he drunk?

(Once the tank breaks through a wall.)
Nathan Drake: Are you freakin' kiddin' me!

(Upon reuniting with Tenzin.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin, thank God.

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Where the hell did you go?

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

(Upon reaching the zipline.)
Nathan Drake: Tenzin! Cover me!

(Upon destroying the tank.)
Nathan Drake: Say goodnight! Yeah!

We Gotta Go[]

Nathan Drake: Tenzin—

Pema: (speaking Tibetan)

Tenzin: Pema! (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: Schäfer... where's Schäfer?

Pema: (speaking Tibetan)

Elena Fisher: Nate!

Nathan Drake: They took Schäfer!

Elena Fisher: Oh, God... It's because he had the dagger.

Nathan Drake: I know.

Nathan Drake: Hey—

Elena Fisher: No time to argue, we gotta go!

Nathan Drake: All right, well, at least scooch over.

Elena Fisher: Okay.

Nathan Drake: All right, they must've taken him in the lead car.

Elena Fisher: We gotta stop 'em before Lazarevic gets ahold of him.

Nathan Drake: All right, I have an idea...

Elena Fisher: W-what are you doing?

Nathan Drake: I'm gonna clear the road. Here, take the wheel.

Elena Fisher: What?

Nathan Drake: Just take it.

Elena Fisher: Why didn't you just let me drive in the first place?

Nathan Drake: I didn't think that far ahead.

Elena Fisher: Yeah.

Nathan Drake: All right, hold it steady...

Elena Fisher: Okay...

Nathan Drake: That's good...

Nathan Drake: All right... here we go...

Nathan Drake: A little closer...

Elena Fisher: ...Ohhh

Nathan Drake: There you go...

Elena Fisher: Hang on!

Elena Fisher: Nate!

Convoy[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Elena Fisher: Hang on!

Nathan Drake: I'm hanging, I'm hanging!

(When your truck is about to explode, actual line spoken is random.)

Nathan Drake
  • Oh no, it's on fire!
  • I gotta get off this thing!
  • I gotta find another truck!
  • Damn it, this one's on fire!
  • Uh-oh, I gotta get off this thing!
  • Uh-oh, black smoke, that's not good

(When it blows up.)
Nathan Drake: My truck!

(When the second truck blows up.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa, that was close.

Nathan Drake: Damn it, where do these guys come from!?

(Upon gaining control of the grenade launcher.)
On-screen: Press L1 to fire a grenade

Nathan Drake: Now we're talking.

(Once Elena gets close enough.)
Nathan Drake: Elena, this way!

Elena Fisher: Nate, get these guys off me!

Nathan Drake: You got it!

(When another truck starts ramming Elena's.)

Elena Fisher
  • Get him!
  • Come on Nate!

(Upon destroying it.)
Elena Fisher: Nice work

Nathan Drake: Thank you!

(Upon being split up.)
Nathan Drake: Watch the edge!

Elena Fisher: Okay!

(Upon hitting Elena.)
Elena Fisher: Hey, watch where you're pointing that thing!

Nathan Drake: My bad!

(Upon hitting Elena again.)
Elena Fisher: Careful!

(Once another truck appears.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, we got company!

(Upon destroying it.)
Nathan Drake: That should clear 'em off!

(Once Elena pulls up alongside your truck.)
Elena Fisher: Nate, over here! Jump!

The Creepy Old Monastery[]

Elena Fisher: Are you okay back there?!

Nathan Drake: Yeah! There's the lead car! Gun it!

Elena Fisher: Hold on!

Nathan Drake: Haha! That's right, you bastards! We got you now! Oh crap!

Soldier: There's no way they survived that. Let's go!

Elena Fisher: C'mon...

Nathan Drake: Just like old times, huh?

Elena Fisher: You could say that. So now what?

Nathan Drake: We head to the creepy, old monastery. What else?

Nathan Drake: There's Schäfer.

Nathan Drake: Damn it.

Elena Fisher: What's happening?

Nathan Drake: Lazarevic has him.

Elena Fisher: Oh, no...

Nathan Drake: You ready for this?

Elena Fisher: ...as I'll ever be.

The Monastery[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Almost there. You got it?

Elena Fisher: Uh-huh.

Nathan Drake: Quietly now, c'mon.

Nathan Drake: Nice view.

Elena Fisher: (sighs) Men.

Nathan Drake: No, no, I was talking about the mountains. Really.

Elena Fisher: Come on.

(Upon nearing the two soldiers.)
Soldier 1: Who hasn't checked in?

Soldier 2: The last truck never arrived!

Soldier 1: Keep an eye out.

(Upon nearing the next two soldiers.)
Soldier 1: Where is everyone?

Soldier 3: They went with Lazareviç.

(While heading around the corner.)
Nathan Drake: It's up this way!

(Upon nearing the broken bridge.)
Elena Fisher: Careful, soldiers. They haven't seen us yet.

Nathan Drake: Hang back, I'll take these guys out.

(Upon nearing the first soldier on the right.)
Soldier: Freezing up here.

(Once the fighting starts and the turret becomes active.)
Elena Fisher: There's a machine gun over there!

(Upon tipping over the wooden cart.)
Nathan Drake: Damn it, they're on both sides!

(Upon clearing all enemies on the far side, when reinforcements appear from behind.)
Elena Fisher: There's more of them!

Nathan Drake: Keep goin'!

Elena Fisher: Cover me!

Nathan Drake: Go! Go!

(If you're not on the machine gun.)
Elena Fisher: Nate, get on the machine gun!

(Upon defeating all soldiers.)
Elena Fisher: All clear.

(If Elena approaches the large gate alone.)
Elena Fisher: It's gonna take both of us to get this door open.

(Upon fully raising the gate.)
Nathan Drake: All right, I'll hold it, you go first!

Elena Fisher: Okay.

Elena Fisher: That was close.

(Upon going down the steps.)
Nathan Drake: It's a long way down. Looks like that beam's the only way across.

Elena Fisher: I think I see a rope down there.

Nathan Drake: Okay, sit tight. I'll go down there and throw it up to you.

(After nearly falling.)
Nathan Drake: (sigh) Shit.

(Upon pressing Triangle at the rope.)
Nathan Drake: Well, here's the rope. Catch!

Elena Fisher: Got it!

(While crossing the plank bridge.)
Nathan Drake: All right, follow me.

(Upon pressing Triangle at the top of the platform.)
Nathan Drake: You're gonna have to jump for it. I'll catch you.

Elena Fisher: Okay!

Elena Fisher: (screams)

Nathan Drake: I gotcha. There. See? No sweat.

(Upon crouching down next to the statue.)
Nathan Drake: C'mon, over here.

Elena Fisher: Okay.

(Upon attempting to push it alone.)
Nathan Drake: It's no good... too heavy.

(Upon attempting to push it alone again.)
Nathan Drake: Ugh... too heavy! I can't do this on my own.

(Upon pushing it together.)
Nathan Drake: Give me a hand, we'll push it.

(After pushing it all the way.)
Nathan Drake: That's it.

Elena Fisher: Hey, we can climb up this thing now! Come on!

(While following Elena.)
Nathan Drake: Be careful. God knows how old these boards are...

Elena Fisher: Hey, I found a rope.

(Upon reaching the top.)
Elena Fisher: Look—up there. Is that them?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, they're moving Schäfer into that tower. Damn it.

Elena Fisher: C'mon, we've gotta hurry.

(Upon reaching the locked door.)
Elena Fisher: It's locked. There's no way we're getting through here.

Nathan Drake: Okay, I'll try to find another way around—open it from the other side. You stay put.

Elena Fisher: All right, just try to be subtle. We don't want to attract any unnecessary attention.

Nathan Drake: Subtle. Right... Got it.

(Upon reaching the wooden platform above the door.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa! ...Oh shit... Quiet.

(Upon reaching the bottom of the tower.)

Nathan Drake: Holy crap!

Elena Fisher: So much for subtle!

Nathan Drake: Tell it to the guy with the RPG.

(Once the large group of snipers appear.)
Nathan Drake: Ahh, shit... we got snipers!

Elena Fisher: We're sitting ducks down here. Get me up that ladder!

(Upon pressing Triangle at the fire escape.)
Nathan Drake: Elena, come on!

Nathan Drake: I'll boost ya up. Watch yourself up there.

Elena Fisher: All right, here... Come on!

(Upon reaching the higher floor with the bridge.)
Elena Fisher: We've gotta get across that bridge...

Nathan Drake: We can't go out there now, those snipers will cut us to pieces.

Elena Fisher: Hey! I think there's a sniper rifle up there.

(After climbing to the top of the tower, when an RPG hits it.)
Nathan Drake: That's a little too close. Shit!

(After another rocket hits.)
Nathan Drake: Shit!

(Upon shooting the soldier with the RPG-7.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa! Holy shit, did I do that?

(Once soldiers start to cross the bridge.)
Elena Fisher: Uh-oh! They're crossing the bridge!

(After eliminating all of the soldiers.)
Nathan Drake: That's the last of 'em!

Elena Fisher: Let's get across that bridge!

(Upon reaching the rope bridge.)
Elena Fisher: There they are.

Nathan Drake: Ugh, that son-of-a-bitch. We don't have much time... we gotta hurr—and there she goes.

Elena Fisher: Come on!

Nathan Drake: Right behind ya!

(While crossing the bridge.)
Elena Fisher: Are you okay?

Nathan Drake: Run!

Nathan Drake: Keep going!

Nathan Drake: Oh boy.

(After the bridge crashes.)
Elena Fisher: Nate! You still down there?

Nathan Drake: Yes.

(While climbing up.)

Nathan Drake: No, no, come on...

(Upon reaching the top.)
Elena Fisher: Come on... there ya go, grab my hand! Okay!

Nathan Drake: Pull me up! Pull me up! (sighs)

Nathan Drake: I'm never crossing a bridge with you again.

Elena Fisher: Deal...

(Upon pressing Triangle at the closed gate behind you.)
Nathan Drake: All right, let's get these doors open.

Elena Fisher: Okay.

Nathan Drake: C'mon, gimme a hand.

(While going up the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: Be careful.

Elena Fisher: Right behind you.

Nathan Drake: We're getting close.

(Upon reaching the top.)
Nathan Drake: Get back.

Nathan Drake: There's Lazarevic.

Zoran Lazareviç: Stand guard! Stay alert!

Elena Fisher: Where's Schäfer?

Nathan Drake: I don't know. They must be holding him up there.

(After entering the courtyard.)
Soldier: There!

Nathan Drake: Oh crap.

(After eliminating all the soldiers.)
Elena Fisher: Okay, this way.

(Upon pressing Triangle at the closed door where Elena is waiting.)
Nathan Drake: All right, I'll get it.

Elena Fisher: Okay.

Nathan Drake: Go...

Elena Fisher: Uhh-ohh...

Nathan Drake: Whoa...

(Upon pressing Triangle at the broken ladder.)
Nathan Drake: All right, just like the fire-escape.

Elena Fisher: (groans) Okay.

Nathan Drake: All right, when you get up there kick it down.

Elena Fisher: Uh, oh no...

Nathan Drake: I didn't mean literally.

Elena Fisher: Whoa! Hang on, hang on... back away, back away. Special... delivery...

Nathan Drake: That'll work. Good thinking.

(As Elena jumps from platform to platform.)
Elena Fisher: Okay... here we go...

Elena Fisher: (groans) Ow. Ya hangin' in there?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, cute.

Elena Fisher: ...All right. There ya go!

(While climbing up the wall.)
Nathan Drake: Ahh, we're gettin' closer.

Elena Fisher: Okay... hey, hey, hey, sshhh.

Nathan Drake: All right... keep your head down.

(Upon going outside again.)
Nathan Drake: Come on, follow me.

(Upon pressing Triangle at the next closed door.)
Nathan Drake: Up there. That must be where they're holding Schäfer.

Elena Fisher: What?

Nathan Drake: Ah, crap. Get down!

Reunion[]

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, while idling after all the soldiers have been eliminated.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, let's get up there and check it out.

You Were Right[]

Elena Fisher: Oh no...

Elena Fisher: It's okay. We're here.

Karl Schäfer: You were right.

Nathan Drake: About what?

Karl Schäfer: Everything you touch does turn to shit. (coughs)

Nathan Drake: All right, c'mon, we're gonna get you out of here.

Karl Schäfer: No...

Elena Fisher: What do we do?

Karl Schäfer: Did you find my expedition?

Nathan Drake: Yes, I found them.

Karl Schäfer: You understand what I had to do?

Nathan Drake: Yes.

Karl Schäfer: If they had found the stone... it would have changed the course of history. (coughs)

Elena Fisher: Hey, easy, easy.

Karl Schäfer: He took the dagger.

Nathan Drake: I know.

Karl Schäfer: He's gone to the tower. You have to stop him. (coughs)

Elena Fisher: Try—try not to move.

Karl Schäfer: This monastery hides the secret path to Shambhala. You must get the dagger back, find the secret path, and destroy the Stone before he gets his hands on it. Drake... ...you have to believe.

Nathan Drake: Schäfer...

Elena Fisher: Oh, Nate...

Elena Fisher: We can't just leave him.

Nathan Drake: What choice do we have? You heard him.

Elena Fisher: Do you think all this really could be true?

Nathan Drake: I don't know. But he believed it. That's enough for me.

Nathan Drake: Okay—

Elena Fisher: I think we should split up.

Nathan Drake: What?

Elena Fisher: No, listen, I'll go scope out the secret entrance thing and you go to the tower and figure out how to get that dagger back.

Nathan Drake: Uh, yeah, all right... Just—keep your head down and stay in radio contact.

Elena Fisher: Yeah, okay.

Nathan Drake: Good luck.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, upon reaching the exterior balcony.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, there's the tower.

Nathan Drake: What the hell are they shooting at?

Soldier 1: Stand your ground!

Soldier 2: (shouts) Fire!

Soldier 3: Oh my God!

Soldier 4: Watch the rooftops!

Nathan Drake: Ah shit, not those things again.

Soldier 2: What the hell was that?!

Soldier 1: I don't know!

Soldier 4: Keep your eyes peeled.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, upon climbing the larger set of stairs.)
Nathan Drake: Those things are bad news.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted, upon reaching the gate.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa... there's another one of them.

(Upon being radioed in by Elena, as you enter the ruined room.)
Elena Fisher: Nate... There's something strange going on over here. There's some sort of animals.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, I probably should have warned you about them.

Elena Fisher: Warned me? Wait, you knew about these things? When were you planning on telling me?

Nathan Drake: Just lay low and stay out of their way.

Soldier 1: We need reinforcements!

Soldier 2: Send back-up!

Nathan Drake: Quiet, Nate. Quiet.

Soldier 1: Oh God, they're all dead!

Soldier 2: These things tore them apart!

Soldier 3: They went that way!

Soldier 2: What the hell are those things?!

(Upon almost reaching the top of the tower.)
Nathan Drake: Oh finally, the tower.

That Belongs to Me[]

Zoran Lazarević: I'm tired of your excuses.

Harry Flynn: Look, give me some more time, that's all I'm asking.

Zoran Lazarević: (laughs) I have given you enough time.

Zoran Lazarević: I have brought you the dagger. Now—where is the gate to Shambhala?

Harry Flynn: Look, Zoran—we know—

Zoran Lazarević: I have not come this far to be thwarted by your incompetence.

Harry Flynn: We know the answer is somewhere in this room. We just have to find it.

Zoran Lazarević: Meanwhile Drake remains just one step behind you.

Zoran Lazarević: I clearly hired the wrong man for the job.

Chloe Frazer: What an asshole.

Harry Flynn: I'll, I'll try to smooth things over with him.

Harry Flynn: Just—stay here. See what you can work out.

Chloe Frazer: Okay, think Chloe, think...

Nathan Drake: That belongs to me.

Chloe Frazer: Nate? Get out of here.

Nathan Drake: Give me the dagger.

Chloe Frazer: They'll be here any minute—

Nathan Drake: Chloe. Don't make me take it from you.

Chloe Frazer: How am I supposed to explain where it's gone?

Nathan Drake: You'll think of something. You always do.

Chloe Frazer: Just... Just do one thing for me. Take that son-of-a-bitch down.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Nathan Drake: All right... what am I looking for? Wait a minute... this all looks familiar.

(Upon leafing through the journal onto the pages with the colored beasts.)
Nathan Drake: All right, each of these creatures seems to be associated with a color.

(Upon approaching the objects on the floor.)
Nathan Drake: I bet I could move these things.

(Upon placing an object on the wrong button.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, this one's in the wrong spot! Damnmit.

(Upon placing an object on the correct button.)
Nathan Drake: Huh. All right. What's next?

(While lugging another object around the room.)
Nathan Drake: Where's Sully when you need him?

(Upon properly placing all objects.)
Nathan Drake: All right, that should do it! Ah, shit. More? Okay, I've seen these symbols before...

(Upon leafing through the journal again.)
Nathan Drake: Each one is matched with a color, just like the creatures.

(Upon solving the second puzzle.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa.

(Upon approaching the revealed object.)
Nathan Drake: Three-sided, just like the dagger.

Nathan Drake: Well, well, well, what have we here?

(Upon going back outside again.)
Nathan Drake: (laughs) Gotcha.

Nathan Drake: Elena, can you hear me?

Elena Fisher: Yeah.

Nathan Drake: I think I just found the secret entrance.

Elena Fisher: Really?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, you see the base of the cliff with all the statues?

Elena Fisher: Uh huh...

Nathan Drake: Meet me there.

Elena Fisher: You got it! I'm on my way.

(Upon getting closer to the aforementioned location.)
Nathan Drake: Elena, you there?

Elena Fisher: Yeah... I'm over here, I can see you.

Nathan Drake: What the hell are those guys doin'?

Elena Fisher: Looks like they're pulling the statues down trying to find that secret entrance.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, well, the geniuses are right on top of it.

Nathan Drake: Well... here goes nothing.

Nathan Drake: Okay... I'm ready when you are.

(After eliminating all the soldiers.)
Elena Fisher: Wait, so... where's the secret entrance?

(Upon approaching the secret entrance.)
Nathan Drake: It's right here. This is it.

Elena Fisher: Whoa.

Nathan Drake: Haha... I knew it.

(Upon pushing one of the bars.)
Nathan Drake: Here, help me push.

Elena Fisher: Okay.

Elena Fisher: Put your back into it.

Nathan Drake: Nag, nag, nag.

(Upon finishing.)
Elena Fisher: (gasp) Nate—

Nathan Drake: Well, wouldya look at that. (chuckles) Hidden right in plain sight.

Elena Fisher: Come on... this way! I think there might be a quick way down over here.

(While, and after, zip lining down.)
Elena Fisher: Oh!

Nathan Drake: Whoa!

Nathan Drake: Well, at least it's keeping them busy.

Elena Fisher: You see that?

Nathan Drake: Stay back.

(Upon being spotted by the soldiers.)
Nathan Drake: Get down!

(When the reinforcements appear.)
Nathan Drake: They're rappelling down that wall!

(Upon grabbing hold of the rope.)
Nathan Drake: Well, thanks for the rope, boys. Hope there's nothin' scary at the top.

(Upon reaching the top.)
Nathan Drake: All right, it's all clear. Come on.

(While descending down the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: We're getting close, I know it.

(Upon reaching a large gate.)
Nathan Drake: There's some doors up here. I need your help.

Elena Fisher: Okay.

Nathan Drake: All right. Go.

The Road to Shambhala[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Here it is Elena. The secret entrance to Shambhala.

Elena Fisher: Nate?

Nathan Drake: Yeah.

Elena Fisher: Don't see it.

Nathan Drake: Neither do I.

Elena Fisher: (sighs) If I have to climb another wall...

Nathan Drake: Keep looking around. There has to be a clue somewhere.

Elena Fisher: Are you sure this is it?

Nathan Drake: It has to be. We're missing something.

(After properly aligning all of the wall ornaments.)
Nathan Drake: That's it.

Elena Fisher: What?

Nathan Drake: Watch.

A Test of Wills[]

Soldier 1: They went down this way!

Nathan Drake: Son-of-a-bitch!

Soldier 2: Hold the door!

Elena Fisher: Now what do we do?

Nathan Drake: Just stay behind me.

Soldier 2: Through here!

Nathan Drake: Drop the gun! Do it!

Nathan Drake: Stay back.

Nathan Drake: Ah, shit.

Zoran Lazarević: I should have killed you myself when I had the chance. Not a mistake I will make twice.

Lazarevic points his gun at Nathan. Elena points her gun at Lazarevic.

Elena Fisher: Back off.

Zoran Lazarević: Oh, pull the trigger, little one—see how long you live. Now, you will open the passage to Shambhala.

Nathan Drake: Go to hell.

Zoran Lazarević: (chuckles) Are you a student of history, Mr. Drake?

Nathan Drake: I've read a book or two.

Zoran Lazarević: Hmm... Genghis Khan, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot... They were all great men. But do you know why they prevailed?

Nathan Drake: I'm sure you're gonna tell us.

Zoran Lazarević: Because they had the will to do what other men would not.

Zoran Lazarević: Compassion is the enemy. Mercy defeats us. Now, unless you wish to test me still further, you will drop your weapons!

Nathan Drake: Do it.

Zoran Lazarević: Kick them away.

Zoran Lazarević: So. You have tested my will. Now it is my turn to test yours.

Elena Fisher: Killing us won't get you anywhere.

Zoran Lazarević: Killing him, yes. But you...

Nathan Drake: You hurt her, you'll get nothing from me.

Zoran Lazarević: Well then it appears we are at a stalemate. Unless, I add another pawn to the board. Bring her in!

Nathan Drake: Shit.

Zoran Lazarević: Ahh...

Chloe Frazer: Get your hands off me.

Zoran Lazarević: Now, one we will use as a lesson. And the other we will use as incentive to cooperate. You choose.

Chloe Frazer: This is bullshit, Nate.

Elena Fisher: Yeah, don't play into his game.

Nathan Drake: You want my help—you let them go.

Zoran Lazarević: This is not a negotiation! Who would you sacrifice? And who would you save? Want this one? You want to save this one? Or maybe this one? Hmmm?

Nathan Drake: Y'know what, enough of this shit—all right, quit the theatrics. I'll do what you want.

Nathan Drake: Calm down.

Nathan Drake: You, asswipe, gimme your lighter.

Nathan Drake: Holy crap...

Zoran Lazarević: What is this?

Harry Flynn: How should I know?

Zoran Lazarević: Find a way across, and fix it!

Zoran Lazarević: And take him with you. Maybe this time it will get done right. Oh, and Mr. Drake...

Zoran Lazarević: ...Don't try anything clever.

Harry Flynn: After you.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Nathan Drake: You backstabbing son-of-a-bitch.

Harry Flynn: Yeah, well I learned from the best, didn't I? Get a move on.

Harry Flynn: C'mon. You first, darling'.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, big man with that gun, aren't ya?

Harry Flynn: Don't go far!

Nathan Drake: Try to keep up.

Harry Flynn: I'm keeping up, I'm letting you go first.

Harry Flynn: Hold on. Wait for me. Daddy's got a gun.

Nathan Drake: I can't believe Lazarević hasn't killed you yet.

(Upon reaching the dead end platform.)
Harry Flynn: Gimme a boost, buddy.

Nathan Drake: Huh... Buddy.

Harry Flynn: There we go. Oh, look out, it's a stone's throw.

Nathan Drake: Huh—hey!

Harry Flynn: Sorry. Is that blocking your path?

Nathan Drake: Glad you find this so funny.

Nathan Drake: No, wait for me!

Harry Flynn: Sorry about that.

Nathan Drake: Great.

Harry Flynn: What's wrong mate? Don't you trust me?

(After you jump.)
Harry Flynn: See, you should have more faith in me, chum.

Harry Flynn: There you go, sweetheart.

Harry Flynn: Get ahead of me. Go on.

Harry Flynn: You better not be leading me into a dead end.

Nathan Drake: It's through here.

Harry Flynn: I don't think you're gonna get your stomach through there.

(Once Flynn approaches the statue piece blocking your path.)
Nathan Drake: Help me move this.

Harry Flynn: Aye aye.

(Upon pushing it away.)
Harry Flynn: Okay, teamwork. Just like the good old days, eh?

(Upon approaching the cart.)
Harry Flynn: Now how did they get that cart there?

Nathan Drake: Who cares? We just have to get up high.

Harry Flynn: It's like Stonehenge, isn't it?

Nathan Drake: (sighs) No. Help me push this.

(As you climb up.)
Harry Flynn: C'mon, girlie girl. There you go.

Nathan Drake: Statue of your mom.

(While you are crossing the bridge.)
Harry Flynn: Oh look - it's a life-size statue of your ego.

(Upon making the next big jump.)
Nathan Drake: Hope you can make that jump on your own 'cause I'm sure as hell not gonna help you.

Harry Flynn: If you can do it... I can.

Harry Flynn: Little help, little help. Never mind. Just kidding.

(Upon opening the door at the end.)
Nathan Drake: All right, let's open it up.

Harry Flynn: Y'know what they say - behind a door... is another door.

(Upon entering the next room.)
Harry Flynn: Okay. So, what do you have to do? What do we have to do?

Nathan Drake: Just wait here. As usual, I'll take care of everything.

Harry Flynn: Would you?

Nathan Drake: Wait

Harry Flynn: What?

Nathan Drake: Those symbols... I know those symbols...

(Upon approaching one of the cylinders.)
Harry Flynn: Such a little book; such big cylinders.

(While rotating the cylinders.)
Harry Flynn: As the world turns, so does my boredom. Could you hurry up?

Nathan Drake: Hold on, I'm trying to concentrate.

Harry Flynn: Come on, mate. We haven't got all day. Wouldn't want to piss off Lazarević, now, would we?

Nathan Drake: Do me a favor Flynn; shoot my ears off. Please.

(If you take too long.)
On-screen: Turn the cylinders

(Upon rotating them all correctly.)
Nathan Drake: That should do it.

Harry Flynn: What's that, just came out of the floor?

Nathan Drake: C'mon, make yourself useful.

(While rotating the new pedestal.)
Harry Flynn: Agh, what are we grinding wheat? What is this?

Nathan Drake: Ah, there we go.

Harry Flynn: Sounds like water.

Nathan Drake: Oh, crap!

Harry Flynn: What the hell are these things?

Nathan Drake: Flynn, I'm gonna need a gun!

Harry Flynn: No way!

Nathan Drake: No time to argue!

Harry Flynn: Son-of-a—all right! Here!

Nathan Drake: Thank you!

Welcome to Paradise[]

Zoran Lazarević: Ah, ah, ah, ah. Hold him.

Harry Flynn: What the hell are those things?

Zoran Lazarević: (chuckles)

Nathan Drake: What?

Zoran Lazarević: Scarecrows. Guardians to frighten trespassers.

Harry Flynn: Yeah? Well, it's bloody effective.

Nathan Drake: Lazarević, I've done what you asked. Let them go.

Zoran Lazarević: Always bargaining... But you have played your last hand, and lost.

Harry Flynn: Looks like it's the end of the road, mate.

Zoran Lazarević: No, no, no, no, not yet. I want him to see Shambhala, and die knowing that I have taken it from him.

Zoran Lazarević: Now... You have been a thorn in my side for far too long. On your knees.

Harry Flynn: Wh—Hey, hey, uh, Zoran? We had a deal.

Zoran Lazarević: I do not suffer traitors.

Harry Flynn: Oh right, so I suppose you exactly how to find the Stone, then? Won't be needing me...

Harry Flynn: Thanks.

Zoran Lazarević: On your knees!

Zoran Lazarević: What is this?

Zoran Lazarević: Fire, you fools!

Nathan Drake: Oh, shit.

Harry Flynn: Son-of-a—

Chloe Frazer: Run!

Nathan Drake: Go!

Zoran Lazarević: Onto the bridge!

Broken Paradise[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Come on!

Chloe Frazer: You okay?!

Elena Fisher: No, I'm fine, I'm fine. Go go go!

(While moving forwards.)
Chloe Frazer: Look out!

Elena Fisher: They're everywhere!

Elena Fisher: Keep going! Keep going!

(Upon jumping onto the platform.)
Elena Fisher: Look out!

Soldier #1: Shoot them!

Soldier #2: Stop them!

(After the cutscene.)
Elena Fisher: Steady!

Nathan Drake: (shouts) Crap! Crap! Crap!

Chloe Frazer: Ohh, my God.

Elena Fisher: We're gonna crash!

Nathan Drake: Hold on!

Chloe Frazer: Ooh.

Nathan Drake: Whoa.

Elena Fisher: Ugh!

Nathan Drake: Yeesh.

Chloe Frazer: Okay... We need to get the hell out of here—now.

(After the cutscene.)
Elena Fisher: I couldn't sleep for days after I saw that last time.

Nathan Drake: All right, let's go! Come on, no time to sightsee. Let's keep moving.

Chloe Frazer: Watch this, Elena, he'll probably break something.

Off to Save the World[]

Chloe Frazer: Huh...

Chloe Frazer: Looks like someone else made it in here before us.

Elena Fisher: Let's hope we have better luck making it out.

Nathan Drake: Yeah, these bodies look like they've been here sixty, seventy years.

Chloe Frazer: Hey. Didn't seem to do them much good, but here.

Elena Fisher: Thanks.

Chloe Frazer: Mhm.

Chloe Frazer: Well, Lazarević and his crew will have headed into the city. So, if we can just make it back to the entrance, it should be clear by now.

Nathan Drake: Uh, no, Chloe, we're going after the Cintamani Stone.

Chloe Frazer: What?

Elena Fisher: We have to stop Lazarević.

Chloe Frazer: And how exactly do you plan on doing that?

Nathan Drake: Get to the Stone first, before he does, and destroy it.

Chloe Frazer: Whoa, whoa, wait a minute—don't tell me you're buying into all that supernatural nonsense.

Nathan Drake: I don't know what to believe anymore.

Chloe Frazer: Okay—well just in case you missed it, that man is certifiable. He thinks he's fulfilling some sort of prophecy—that the Stone will somehow make him invincible. Immortal.

Elena Fisher: We're standing in the middle of Shambhala and you're questioning what's possible?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, you saw how many bullets they pumped into those things. Something strange is going on here.

Chloe Frazer: All the more reason why we should get out while we still can.

Nathan Drake: I'm just trying to set things right.

Elena Fisher: ...and maybe save the world?

Chloe Frazer: Oh God... Listen, sunshine—the world doesn't care. You stick your neck out, you are asking to lose your head.

Nathan Drake: You said yourself you want to take this guy down.

Chloe Frazer: Yes, and I want to see him pay more than you do. But that's not how it will end. This... This is how it will end.

Nathan Drake: No... Not this time.

Elena Fisher: C'mon. Whaddya say?

Chloe Frazer: That you're crazy.

Chloe Frazer: But let's go save your bloody world.

Gameplay (continued)[]

(Once the Guardians appear.)
Chloe Frazer: Whoa.

Nathan Drake: Ah, great. It's more of those freaks.

Chloe Frazer: Take cover, here.

Nathan Drake: Stay back, don't let them near you.

Elena Fisher: What are those things?!

Nathan Drake: Hard to kill, that's what!

Chloe Frazer: I know right! What are we supposed to do, any ideas?

Nathan Drake: Just keep shooting!

(After killing all of the Guardians.)
Nathan Drake: We're gonna need stronger weapons than this.

Elena Fisher: That's for sure.

(After landing upon the second plateau.)
Nathan Drake: Come on. You can make these jumps.

(While waiting for Chloe and Elena to catch up with you at the last plateau.)
Nathan Drake: How ya doin' back there?

Chloe Frazer: We're coming.

Nathan Drake: Careful!

(Upon running into the dead end.)
Nathan Drake: We have to get through somehow.

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: Hey, that's sap... it's just like the resin. That stuff is flammable - stand back!

(Upon shooting it.)
Chloe Frazer: Whoa! What the hell?

Elena Fisher: Oh my God—what is that?!

(If you did not trigger the prompt, or shot the resin without letting Nate finish.)
Nathan Drake: The sap is flammable, just like the resin we found.

Chloe Frazer: Ah, great—little warning next time, maybe.

(If you did trigger the prompt.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, doesn't look too creepy...

(Upon shooting the third batch of resin.)
Nathan Drake: Now we're talkin', let's go!

(Upon pressing Up when prompted.)
Nathan Drake: Wait, that looks familiar. Of course. That must be where the Cintamani Stone is.

(Upon jumping down.)
Elena Fisher: It's all so beautiful.

Nathan Drake: This place really must have been something back in the day.

Chloe Frazer: It's kinda quiet.

Nathan Drake: Does feel kinda haunted, doesn't it?

(While using the gate winch.)
Chloe Frazer: Whoa whoa whoa!

Nathan Drake: We got company.

Elena Fisher: Again?!

Nathan Drake: (shushes)

Chloe Frazer: Told you. Was too damn quiet.

Nathan Drake: Maybe they haven't seen us yet.

Chloe Frazer: Elena get back.

Nathan Drake: Ah, these soldiers are crawlin' all over the place!

(After using the winch again.)
Nathan Drake: Damn it, it's stuck! Ahh, the other counterweight is missing.

Chloe Frazer: Well, you look about the right size.

Elena Fisher: (laughs)

Nathan Drake: Hah—funny.

(Upon hanging onto the second chain.)
Nathan Drake: All right, I'm on it!

Chloe Frazer: Okay, here we go...

Chloe Frazer: You were cutting that a little fine...

(When the second wave, including the sniper, appears at the end of the narrow street.)
Nathan Drake: Look out!

(Upon nearing the end of the street.)
Nathan Drake: You guys all right?

Elena Fisher: Yep!

(Upon being ambushed.)
Elena Fisher: Nate, look out!

(Upon entering the center of the plaza, after eliminating the ambush.)
Elena Fisher: Looks like we need to get up to that ledge.

Nathan Drake: Let's use the cart.

Elena Fisher: Here ya go!

(After you push it all the way.)
Nathan Drake: That'll do it.

Chloe Frazer: Nice work, guys.

Nathan Drake: Thanks for the help... Chloe.

Chloe Frazer: Don't mention it.

(While going up the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: There it is.

(Upon entering the large chamber in the midst of a firefight.)
Nathan Drake: Oh, shit—get down!

(Once the second wave of Guardians appear.)
Nathan Drake: Watch out for the guys with the slings!

(Shortly after.)
Nathan Drake: They just keep coming!

(After killing everything.)
Nathan Drake: Okay. All clear.

(While moving through the tunnel, and subsequently while going up the stairs.)
Nathan Drake: The stone's gotta be here somewhere. Let's try headin' up.

Elena Fisher: All right!

Nathan Drake: C'mon, we better hurry.

Nathan Drake: All right, we're almost there.

The Cintamani Stone[]

Elena Fisher: There it is. The Cintamani Stone.

Chloe Frazer: I can't believe we beat them here.

Elena Fisher: It's beautiful.

Chloe Frazer: Yep. Magnificent.

Chloe Frazer: Now let's smash it and get the hell out of here.

Nathan Drake: Wait. Something's not right.

Elena Fisher: What do you mean?

Nathan Drake: Marco Polo had it wrong. This isn't a sapphire. It's amber.

Chloe Frazer: Amber?

Nathan Drake: Yeah. Y'know, fossilized resin. It's tree sap.

Nathan Drake: Wait a minute...

Elena Fisher: What is it?

Nathan Drake: You gotta be shittin' me.

Chloe Frazer: Hello? Nate?

Elena Fisher: I hate it when he does this.

Chloe Frazer: Tell me about it.

Nathan Drake: How could I have missed it?

Elena Fisher: Missed what?

Nathan Drake: It's not actually a stone—it's the resin, the sap—from the Tree of Life.

Chloe Frazer: Okay, hold on, now you've lost me. This tree?

Nathan Drake: No... That tree.

Elena Fisher: There he is—Lazarević.

Nathan Drake: He's headed to the Tree. Oh my god... The black teeth.

Elena Fisher: What?

Nathan Drake: The black teeth on those guardian things and the bodies in Borneo. They ate the resin—and it changed them somehow.

Chloe Frazer: And you think that's what Lazarević is planning to do?

Nathan Drake: You really wanna wait around and find out?

Harry Flynn: Bravo, Sherlock...

Harry Flynn: Well done.

Nathan Drake: Flynn... Jesus.

Chloe Frazer: Oh, Harry...

Harry Flynn: What's the matter, mate? Disappointed Lazarebitch beat you to it? I'm afraid you just missed him. Figured I'd stay behind and wait for you to come join my little party.

Nathan Drake: What are you talking about?

Harry Flynn: Maybe that's what old Zoran wanted all along, eh? He's cleverer than he looks.

Elena Fisher: We can still stop him.

Nathan Drake: Elena, don't.

Elena Fisher: No, we can help you.

Harry Flynn: Sorry, love. This isn't a movie, and you're not the plucky girl who reforms the villain and saves the day. It's just not done like that.

Nathan Drake: Flynn, listen to me. You—

Harry Flynn: Parting gift from Lazarević. Pity he took the pin.

Nathan Drake: Get back!

Chloe Frazer: Elena!

Nathan Drake: No!

Chloe Frazer: Oh my God...

Nathan Drake: Elena!

Nathan Drake: Okay—you're gonna be okay. C'mon, we're gonna get you outta here.

Elena Fisher: No...

Nathan Drake: C'mon...

Elena Fisher: Just stop Lazarević. Go.

Chloe Frazer: Not a chance. Come on.

Elena Fisher: (groans)

Soldier: They're over there!

Nathan Drake: Shit!

Chloe Frazer: It's all right, I've got her. You cover us.

Soldier: Walk to the cliff!

Nathan Drake: All right, this way!

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Elena Fisher: Lazarević...

Chloe Frazer: Screw Lazarević.

Chloe Frazer: We have to get Elena out of here!

Nathan Drake: I'll clear the way!

Chloe Frazer: Come on, honey, you can do it. Hang on. Wait here.

(After the first wave has been killed.)
Nathan Drake: C'mon, keep moving!

Chloe Frazer: Okay, we're gonna move. Come on, you can do it.

Nathan Drake: We got company!

Chloe Frazer: Watch out. Okay, little bit further, here we go...

Chloe Frazer: Okay, hang back...

(After the second wave has been killed.)
Nathan Drake: Keep going!

Chloe Frazer: Okay, we're gonna move. Come on, you can do it. There we go...

Nathan Drake: Elena, you all right?

Chloe Frazer: Come on, let's step over this...

Nathan Drake: Watch your step!

Chloe Frazer: You can do it, come on, one big step... Okay, here we go, let's duck through now.

Elena Fisher: Okay...

Chloe Frazer: There we go...

Elena Fisher: Chloe? Thanks...

Get Away From This Place[]

Nathan Drake: All right, I think that's the last of them...

Nathan Drake: Hey... Hey, Elena, how ya doin', huh?

Chloe Frazer: Not good...

Nathan Drake: You just hang in there okay? I'm counting on you.

Nathan Drake: Head for the gate—go as fast as you can.

Chloe Frazer: Wait, what do you mean?

Chloe Frazer: No. No way.

Nathan Drake: Look, Chloe, I have to end this.

Chloe Frazer: No you don't. Don't you dare take on this stupid crusade.

Nathan Drake: Just get her outta here—

Chloe Frazer: Not without you.

Nathan Drake: If that stuff could really transform Lazarević and his army...

Chloe Frazer: Please don't do this.

Nathan Drake: If it could actually make him invincible, and I didn't try to stop it...

Chloe Frazer: But this is suicide, and you know it.

Nathan Drake: Just go. Get as far away from this place as you can.

Tree of Life[]

(At the start of the chapter.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, what the hell am I doing...?

(Upon dropping down.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, shit...

He's Mine[]

Nathan Drake: What the hell...?

Zoran Lazarević: Drake. Drake!

Nathan Drake: Oh, crap.

Zoran Lazarević: Hold your fire! Hold your fire! He's mine.

Nathan Drake: Sorry pal, you're not my type.

Nathan Drake: (laughs) (sighs) No... No... No, no, no, you have got to be kiddin' me!

Zoran Lazarević: (chuckles)

Nathan Drake: Oh, shit...

Gameplay (continued)[]

(At the start of the fight.)
Zoran Lazarević: You cannot defeat me!

Nathan Drake: You sure about that?

(At the start of the fight, after having died.)
Zoran Lazarević: You're going to die here!

(If you die too many times.)
On-screen: Use the Sap against Lazarević

(During the fight.)

Nathan Drake
  • Come on!
  • Come and get me!
  • Come on, come on, die!
  • Die! Why won't you die?!
  • C'mon, you big ugly bitch!
  • Come on, why won't you die?!

(During the fight.)

Zoran Lazarević
  • Draaake!
  • Pathetic.
  • Bring it on!
  • Stand your ground and fight!
  • Stand your ground like a man!

(After being thrown by Lazerević.)
Zoran Lazarević: Pathetic weak little man.

(Sometimes when he throws grenades.)

Zoran Lazarević
  • Here!
  • Draaake!
  • Eat this!
  • Incoming!
  • Have some of this!

(Upon damaging Lazarević enough for the first time.)
Zoran Lazarević: No! You think you can stop me?

(Upon damaging Lazarević enough for the second time.)
Zoran Lazarević: You will not stand in the way of destiny!

(Upon damaging Lazarević enough for the third time.)
Nathan Drake: Draaake!

No Compassion, No Mercy[]

Nathan Drake: Lazarevic!

Zoran Lazarević: You think I am a monster. But you're no different from me, Drake. How many men have you killed? How many... just today?

Zoran Lazarević: That's it, boy! No compassion. No mercy.

Zoran Lazarević: Do it!

Nathan Drake: No.

Zoran Lazarević: (chuckles) You don't have the will.

Nathan Drake: Maybe not. But they do.

Zoran Lazarević: No!

Gameplay (continued)[]

(After the cutscene.)
Nathan Drake: Holy shit!

(After crossing the entire bridge.)
Chloe Frazer: Nate?!

Nathan Drake: Chloe!

Chloe Frazer: Nate! Whoa! Jesus!

Nathan Drake: Run!

Chloe Frazer: What?!

Nathan Drake: Behind you!

Chloe Frazer: Huh?!

Nathan Drake: Look out!

Nathan Drake: Hang on!

Chloe Frazer: Get off me!

Nathan Drake: Come on!

Nathan Drake: No no no no!

Chloe Frazer: Got you. Come on!

Chloe Frazer: That's it... Come on.

Chloe Frazer: Let's go.

I Haven't Thought That Far Ahead[]

Nathan Drake: C'mon, we gotta get her outta here. Up we go.

Chloe Frazer: C'mon, sunshine.

Chloe Frazer: What the hell did you do back there?

Nathan Drake: Oh, you know... saved the world.

Nathan Drake: Okay... You got her?

Nathan Drake: Damn it, we gotta move faster.

Nathan Drake: Let's go!

Nathan Drake: Oh, no...

Nathan Drake: Elena... Oh God, no... Elena, hold on, all right? Just hold on. C'mon, stay with us. You're going to be okay, all right? You're gonna be fine. You're gonna be just fine. Elena, don't do this... Elena—

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan prayer)

Tenzin: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: (speaking Tibetan)

Chloe Frazer: So, it's been a long strange trip, hasn't it?

Nathan Drake: Yes, it has. Y'know, you should play the hero more often, it suits you.

Chloe Frazer: Nah.

Chloe Frazer: Tell me something, Nate.

Nathan Drake: What?

Chloe Frazer: Do you love her?

Nathan Drake: Chloe, I'm sorry. I...

Chloe Frazer: No. It's fine. Really, it's alright. Just do yourself a favor, cowboy. Tell her.

Nathan Drake: Chloe—

Chloe Frazer: No... My turn to walk away. But admit it. You're gonna miss this ass.

Nathan Drake: Well, look who's not supposed to be out of bed.

Victor Sullivan: Yeah, she's a lousy patient. Stubborn as all hell.

Elena Fisher: I'm not stubborn, I'm just restless.

Victor Sullivan: (chuckles) So, no giant sapphire.

Nathan Drake: Once again, no.

Victor Sullivan: And you're sure?

Elena Fisher: Yes.

Nathan Drake: Just a metaphor, I'm afraid.

Victor Sullivan: A metaphor ain't gonna pay your bills, kid.

Nathan Drake: Eh, something else will come along. Just gotta have faith.

Victor Sullivan: Yeah, that and a quarter'll get you twenty-five cents. Um, which way did Chloe go?

Victor Sullivan: See ya later.

Elena Fisher: Oh, no...

Nathan Drake: You're a dirty old man, Sullivan.

Victor Sullivan: Uh-huh...

Elena Fisher: You did good, Nate.

Elena Fisher: I think he'd approve.

Nathan Drake: Yeah?

Elena Fisher: Mmhm.

Elena Fisher: So, where do we go from here, huh?

Nathan Drake: I don't know.

Nathan Drake: I haven't thought that far ahead.

Elena Fisher: Of course not.

Elena Fisher: But then again, neither have I.

Nathan Drake: Good.

Elena Fisher: So, on a scale of one to ten, how scared were you that I was gonna die?

Nathan Drake: Four.

Elena Fisher: Four?!

Nathan Drake: Yeah, why?

Elena Fisher: A four?

Nathan Drake: Yeah.

Elena Fisher: You were at least an eight.

Nathan Drake: An eight?

Elena Fisher: You were a total eight.

Nathan Drake: An eight? Those guardian things were an eight.

Elena Fisher: Are you kidding me?

Nathan Drake: Yeah, those were terrifying.

Elena Fisher: Then what's a ten?

Nathan Drake: Clowns.

Elena Fisher: Clowns over my death?

Nathan Drake: I, I hate clowns.

Elena Fisher: Clowns?

Nathan Drake: I hate clowns.

Elena Fisher: Oh my word. You thought I was dead.

Nathan Drake: No...

Elena Fisher: No, you thought I was gone.

Nathan Drake: No...

Elena Fisher: Yes, you did.

Nathan Drake: No, I had you all along.

Elena Fisher: I saw you shed tears. You shed a bunch of 'em.

Nathan Drake: Tears?

Elena Fisher: Um-hmm.

Nathan Drake: It was raining.

Elena Fisher: No it was not.

Nathan Drake: You were unconscious and it was raining.

Elena Fisher: It was totally sunny out and you were bawling.

Nathan Drake: It wasn't sunny and you were unconscious.

Elena Fisher: Whatever, I kept your tears in a jar. I have proof.

Nathan Drake: I'll give you a five, how's that?

Nepal Warzone[]

(At the start of the game.)
Nathan Drake: All right guys, treasure's in the plaza. We just gotta go get it.

(After the skull mask soldier appears.)
Nathan Drake: Whoa! Let's get him before he gets us.

(After killing both of the GAU - 19 soldiers.)
Chloe Frazer: Okay... coast is clear.

Nathan Drake: Here we go, moment of truth...

(Upon trying to open the treasure.)
Soldier: He's over there!

Nathan Drake: Oh shit! Ambush!

Victor Sullivan: Oh goddamnit! Don't these people ever go on a goddamn vacation?!

Nathan Drake: This thing better not be empty.

(The ending line varies.)

Nathan Drake
  • Oh yeah, now we're talking!
  • (laughs) Now that's what I call treasure!
  • Yeah! (laughs) I call dibs on the big golden head!
  • (laughs) It's not empty! Look! Oh, it's what I've always wanted, it's a big gold head!
  • (screams) It's uh, it's what I've always wanted! Look! Look Sully, look, it's a big head!

The Village[]

(At the start of the game.)
Soldier: Tell me where the treasure's hidden!

Villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Soldier: Argh, I'll loosen your tongue!

Villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Soldier: Go!

Nathan Drake: C'mon, we gotta save him.

(Once the GAU - 19 soldier appears from the house.)
Nathan Drake: Ah, no, not one of those mutants.

(Upon rescuing the villager.)
Villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Elena Fisher: Ah, okay—okay, slow down.

Villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Nathan Drake: What's he saying?

Elena Fisher: Ah, that there are others and that they're trapped in a house on the far end of the village. We have to help them.

(Upon finishing all of the soldiers in the large area.)
Elena Fisher: All right... I think we just took out a small nation!

(After opening the gate.)
Villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Elena Fisher: They're being held on the other side of the tower.

Nathan Drake: Move!

(After opening the next gate.)
Nathan Drake: Look out!

(Upon reaching the house.)
Nathan Drake: It's okay to come out now! It's safe!

Elena Fisher: Uh, Nate?

Nathan Drake: Oh, boy.

(Upon reaching the checkpoint.)
Elena Fisher: Oh, well that was drama.

(Upon starting the final cutscene.)
Villager: (speaking Tibetan)

Elena Fisher: He says, "Thank you".

Nathan Drake: Ah, got it. Don't suppose anybody's seen any treasure around here. (chuckles)

Nathan Drake: Ow!

Elena Fisher: (speaking Tibetan)

The Sanctuary[]

(At the start of the game.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, we've only got one shot at this. They've rigged up a comm tower on the central courtyard. We go in, set the charge and get the hell out. You ready?

Elena Fisher: Yep.

Chloe Frazer: Let's do it.

(Upon trying to open the red gate.)
Nathan Drake: All right, stand back ladies, I've got this one.

Chloe Frazer: Looks like we're gonna need something with a little more "kick" than that.

Elena Fisher: Hmmph... A lot more.

Nathan Drake: ...Oh, that hurts! Find an RPG and blow that door open.

(Upon trying to open the next gate.)
Chloe Frazer: Just not happening for you today, is it?

Elena Fisher: Oh no!

Nathan Drake: Crap!

Nathan Drake: Run!

(After destroying the helicopter.)
Nathan Drake: Did the helicopter just blow that door to hell? Did that just happen?! Haha! You gotta be kiddin' me!

(Upon trying to set the charge.)
Nathan Drake: Okay, here it goes

Soldier: He's down there!

Chloe Frazer: Take cover!

(Upon setting the charge.)
Nathan Drake: All right... get ready to run.

Nathan Drake: Go!

Nathan Drake: (laughs)

Behind the scenes[]

Technology and Gameplay[]

On-screen: Technology and Gameplay
Evan Wells (co-president): With Uncharted 2, we really wanted to not only tell a really compelling story with interesting characters, but we wanted to just put you in these over-the-top cinematic set-piece moments that feel ripped straight out of a summer blockbuster movie. It lets you have control over Drake as you're having to play through those set pieces. So we wanted to just give all the technology we could to the engine to allow us to create these moments.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): For our first game, we were using probably only 30% of the power of the cell, and this time we're like getting close to 100% of like using all the power of the PS3, and how can we use it just to make the game look beautiful, and have better gameplay and just more everything over the top and all that stuff.

Erick Pangilinan (art director): Uncharted 1 was a hard project because we had a lot of new IPs, new team, new system, new engine, new everything. I would always say Uncharted 1 was like doing brain surgery with a chainsaw. In Uncharted 2, it's a totally different beast. We have precision instruments now that freed up a lot of time for the production, and that was huge because that gave us the time to do more creating rather than R&D.

On-screen: Wreaking havok
Mike Hatfield (lead technical artist): In Uncharted 2, we integrated use of the Havoc physics engine as opposed to a proprietary physics engine we wrote for the last game. We were able to do a lot more things we couldn't do last game, like have light fixtures hanging up the ceiling that are dynamically reacting to events that are going on around you. We have destructible cover all over the place. What we want to do is blur the line between the pre-computed physics stuff that we pre-process in our 3D software and the stuff that's happening live in the game, dynamically reacting to explosions and gunfire. Our goal is to have those two things coexisting without ever betraying what's going on behind the scenes.

Rich Diamant (lead character artist): The biggest thing we want to do from Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2 was really just push the characters to another level of believability. We added a lot more polygons into the model and really redo the entire face rig to kind of get those secondary notions of the face like the subtle details of the the muscles moving good, and we use so much of the power of the PS3, I mean, we're literally creating characters that are just like film. It's pretty amazing.

On-screen: Active cinematic experience
Richard Lemarchand (lead game designer): We often talk about moments in the development of Uncharted, but they're these iconic images packed with drama and a spirit of adventure, and so the train was definitely one of these.

Neil Druckmann (lead game designer): We wanted a technology that will live play straight on objects, be able to move those objects, break them apart, and still keep the players gameplay intact the whole time. We're calling them active cinematic experiences. You're fully in control of Drake while something big is happening.

Richard Lemarchand (lead game designer): Like staging a battle on the roof and inside of and on the sides of a train that's speeding through the Himalayan countryside. That represented really major hills for us to climb in terms of technology and then how we would develop the gameplay scenarios inside of those spaces and using those technologies. But they're so instrumental, they're so fundamental to the game that Uncharted 2 has become, that we're very glad that we chose to do those things.

On-screen: Gameplay
Evan Wells (co-president): With the Uncharted franchise, we really are bringing a unique set of gameplay mechanics that no other game is providing. We're a third person cover-based shooter, but we also have a hugely expansive traversal move set, so we've got characteristics of a platform game, and then we've got great hand-to-hand melee combat. So it's all seamlessly fluid, and Drake just really feels like a fully realized human being. And anything that you think you could do, Drake can do.

Jeremy Yates (lead gameplay animator): So in Uncharted 2, we had three pillars of gameplay: traversal, gun play, and hand-to-hand combat. We set up scenarios and changed the animations, we did all these things that would enable you to seamlessly go to any of those things at any time, and so we really wanted to give that really good cohesive feel to your entire experience.

On-screen: Epic action
Jeremy Yates (lead gameplay animator): We could not have made Uncharted 2 without having made Uncharted 1. We had such a foundation, such a great base to start from, that we built everything on top of. And so our goals for Uncharted 2 were to just really expand even more. We're constantly having to find ways to optimize into it, like how can we squeeze more in during the experience. We gave more than achieved that goal, we've definitely outdone ourselves on this game.

Mike Hatfield (lead technical artist): We're going to pack more explosions, more big budget Hollywood blockbuster explosions, buildings collapsing. You know, we want to maximize people's time. If they're going to spend 12 to 15 hours in our game, running through it, we're going to make sure that every minute of that there's something unexpected getting thrown at them, there's something falling down around them, and they're caught up in the middle of it.

Amy Hennig (creative director): The optimizations and enhancements that they've done to this engine from Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2 are mind-boggling, and we're using the PlayStation 3 hardware in a way that I'm not sure that anybody else really is to have that visual experience be so right, and so seamless that you get the effect of people not wanting to put the controller down.

Story and Art[]

On-screen: Story and art
Richard Lemarchand (lead game designer): We faced a huge number of challenges in making Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. One of the things that we did right at the beginning of the project was to write out kind of a list of the rules by which the Uncharted world operates. It's very much a game about exploration and discovery. It's kind of larger than life, and it has these characters in the world who are often eccentric or surprising.

Bruce Straley (game director): We have challenges in all friends. It's how you create a grounded character in a grounded setting, trying to get the pacing right, not only in the story, in the cut scenes, but in games so they actually start playing the way that we're drawing them in the story. They need to look and react that way in the game as well.

Amy Hennig (creative director): When we set out to do the sequel, we just wanted to even do better at capturing that active cinematic experience, which is really for us capturing the charm and action and adventure and spirit of classic, you know, action-adventure that we all love, for making it interactive. So that anything we could do to make that experience in the players' hands, we wanted to improve from the first game to the second. And I think that's why we get the effect of people not wanting to put the controller down. You know, they want to see what's going to happen next, and they're emotionally invested in what the characters are doing.

On-screen: Drake and associates
Evan Wells (co-president): We've got a really unique character in Nathan Drake, so we really wanted to delve deeper into the character, figure out what makes him tick, and expand the cast of characters to allow him to have a lot of different individuals to play off. I think within the video game landscape, he stands out. I mean, he's got a real relatable character. He's an everyman. He's fallible.

Amy Hennig (creative director): We knew that we wanted to expand on his character, to explore flaws and conflicts without losing what we thought was at the heart of our story, which is humor and charm. And you know, there's even elements of romantic comedy, which I think is unusual in games.

Bruce Straley (game director): True character is defined by the choices a human being makes under pressure. So that's what we try to do with Nate, is throw something at him that just pushes him enough right up against the wall, that forces him to kind of be cunning and skillful, and then thus become the hero in the story.

Amy Hennig (creative director): And that becomes sort of the core of the story, is seeing, you know, when people are put in a crisis, their real character comes out, and then how the people he surrounds himself with, his friends and his colleagues, react to the same crises, and what that says about his character. You know, we've got Sullivan and Elena, and a new character, Flynn, who's a long-time partner and associate of his, and Chloe Frazer, who's this sort of new romantic interest. And all these people sort of are satellites around him that reflect different aspects of his personality and pull him in different directions. And then we want to just see what happens when the shit hits the fan.

On-screen: Art direction
Erick Pangilinan (art director): Uncharted has always been grounded into reality, and we try to thread the fiction and reality. We try to push it as much as possible to the fantasy, but it's still believable. We've always wanted this very lush and colorful world. We want just vibrancy and all of our textures, detail. It's just all about detail, detail, detail. Some of us have actually been to the Gampas in Nepal and Tibet, and we look at the location and the culture and how rich the architecture is, and just how they've developed their culture and the colors and the design. And sometimes reality is better than almost anything you can create.

Robh Ruppel (art director): The big picture and the details, you can't have one without the other. So we'll do a variety of different types of concept art. We'll start off with sort of the big production paintings that give you the breadth and scope of what the level is supposed to look like. It'll do tons and tons and tons of pages of, you know, what do the pipes look like? What does this look like?

Amy Hennig (creative director): When we set out to figure out the stories, we know that we always want to base it on a real-life historical mystery. Our catalyst for this story was a real-life story about Marco Polo, one of the first westerners to travel to China as a trader, as a merchant, and the mystery surrounding his return home was what we used as our launching point.

Neil Druckmann (lead game designer): And because we based a lot of our historical backstory on facts, you feel all more grounded. The Cintamani Stone gave us a nice artifact, something meaty with a real historical context for Drake to pursue. So here we have this artifact that somehow ties into Shangri-La, and that was another grounding for us.

Evan Wells (co-president): A lot of people pay lip service to trying to tell a good story in a video game, but they don't really take the steps necessary to deliver on that promise. And our team really has embraced that challenge, and I think we're providing a level of character-driven plot that most games just aren't capable of doing. And we combine that with a really rich gameplay experience that weaves that narrative into the game as you're playing it. And it's just that whole package that we're bringing is what I'm most proud of.

(The following line is not actually present within the game.)
Nathan Drake: But what is it they say? Fortune favors the bold? Right. Lucky me.

Making of the Cinematics[]

On-screen: Making of the cinematics
Josh Scherr (lead cinematic animator): One of the advantages of having actors who do both the voice and the physical performance on stage, is that you get this unique energy when actors interact with each other, that you just don't get when you record everybody separately in a sound booth. We allow a certain degree of improvisation among the actors. You know, we have the script, they're never necessarily set in stone. If we come up with something better on the day of the shoot, or if one of our actors comes up with a funny ad-lib that works; we use it. And if you record everything beforehand with completely different people, you'll never get that.

Eric Baldwin (cinematic animator): The actors and the director, the motion capture director, really kind of treats their sequences like miniature plays, and they block them as if they're performing in front of a live audience. But because there is no real camera, there are virtual cameras all over the place.

On-screen: Process
Amy Hennig (creative director): We work from an outline that we created at the beginning of the project. We flesh out the script, and we work on the scenes as we go. And then when we get into the studio, we have a rehearsal day with the actors. We revise the material together, we get it up on its feet, we block it as if we were shooting film. Then the next day we get together and shoot it for real with the full crew there and the mocap suits and everything. And even then, we'll revise some on its feet. So, it's a really different process than most video games use.

Josh Scherr (lead cinematic animator): There have been a lot of instances where you have studios who record the voices separately from the mocap, and the end result almost always looks, at best, like pantomime. And it works, it looks like people running around flailing their arms. The nice thing about motion capture is, unlike a live-action shoot where if one person is okay in one take but the other person isn't, you're kind of having to choose between one or the other. I can choose anybody's take from any performance at any time so that we can always get the best possible result.

Bruce Swanson (lead audio): The reason we're actually trying to capture the audio on the stage is because that's basically when the actors are in the moment, and they're giving their best performance, and it just feels a lot better than when we ADR it. Often, that feels, you know, kind of canned.

Taylor Kurosaki (audio/video editor): When I really get involved is really on the day of mocap shooting. So, I'm there on the stage as we're recording the scenes, shooting the scenes with the actors. And I'm listening for continuity between takes. I'm listening for the right emotional tone between the actors. I'm listening for noise, I'm listening for all kinds of pollution in the sound. And we do a bunch of takes.

On-screen: Performance pipeline
Amy Hennig (creative director): I'm paying attention to it from the holistic overview of how the performance fits into the larger story, into the script as a whole. I'm listening for the writing, whether it's working, whether what's on the page is coming out on the stage.

Josh Scherr (lead cinematic animator): I place the cameras where I think I'm going to get the best, most effective performances out of everybody, best establishing shots, best close-ups. And when the scene calls for it, especially in the more action-oriented scenes, we always try to add a bit of a handheld feel to the whole thing as well.

Taylor Kurosaki (audio/video editor): Once Josh has decided which takes, and which masters, and all the time codes of the motion capture that he's going to order, I'll stitch it together. He gives me the leeway to make the timing feel good, it feels energetic. Then I go through all of the takes that we've recorded on the stage, not just the ones that we've selected. I'll make my best cut out of all that dialogue.

Eric Baldwin (cinematic animator): The actors give us such great material on the stage, and when we come in, we have to complete that performance and make these characters really alive and who they are. That usually starts off with looking at what the characters are touching and what prop manipulations, and how they interact with each other. And then it goes all the way up to all the fine details of how their fingers and hands are held and what their faces—the expressions, and the tone and emotion of their face. It's not just the lip sync, it's the whole performance. It's what they're doing when they're not speaking as well. So when we get that performance into our computers and we can look at it from any direction, it's at that point we need to set up our camera rigs. We need to decide where our shots are going to be from, what's going to be a close-up, what's going to be a wide or medium shot, what's going to have a wide angle or a long lens. So we get to start that once the performance is already in.

David Witters (lead lightning): We like to do a lighting study, what we call a lighting study, and look at the action, look at the location, understand the story point, really look at the subtle motion, the interaction of the characters, try to pick some real hero frames, some key points, some key frames in that story point, in those scenes, and really light those to really bring the action to life. We start to move lights around in real-time in the game so we can grab hold of the sunlight and move it around and see, "Oh yeah, that angle of lighting really works nice on the character, and it really brings out the right emotion." So we get the right angle, marry that with the right color, now we've got a compelling shot developing.

Bruce Swanson (lead audio): Often for the sounds in Uncharted 2, we will go out and actually do field recording. We've done that with a lot of the environment stuff. We also record a whole lot of foley as well because we have all the characters that we have to cover, and their move sets are really pretty extensive.

On-screen: Active cinematic experience
Amy Hennig (creative director): Well since our goal is to make sure that this sort of cinematic experience that we're providing, both interactively and in terms of the pre-rendered cutscenes, is as seamless as possible, we wanted to make sure everything happened within the same rendering engine, which is our game rendering engine.

David Witters (lead lightning): It's awesome. I mean, it's just amazing because you can play the game, segue right into the cinematic, use the game engine to light these cinematics, bring them to life, and just make it really, really immersive. Using the game engine, one goes into the other and out, so continuity is just there.

Eric Baldwin (cinematic animator): Because we have the same assets that you're looking at in-game and in the movie. We get that seamless cinematic experience. It's really, really unique.

(The following line is not actually present within the game.)
Nathan Drake: I suppose I should have quit while I was ahead.

Amy Hennig (creative director): It's not just about the visceral thrill of what you're doing, it's about the emotional and the visceral thrill. And that's where having it be a character-driven story is so important.

Eric Baldwin (cinematic animator): And it's great fun for the player to experience, and I look forward to it. It's a lot of fun.

Online Technology[]

On-screen: Online technology
Christophe Balestra (co-president): The biggest challenge we got when we started was like animation. I mean, everybody's been raving about our animations on the first one. We've been pushing the boundaries even further, like on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and we were like, "Okay, that's great, but how are we gonna make that work online?" I remember I got really excited when I got on my monitor like two droids running around. I called everyone and said, "Hey guys, come on over, let's..." and like everybody likes the potential, we are like, "Okay, that's huge." We spent a lot of time working on our technology to just frame animations across the network so that you can see other players at the same point you would just like NPCs or enemies in the game.

Justin Richmond (game designer): Now we have all these fluid animations, all the climbing, all the jumping, you know, all the special moves are all in the game, which is really awesome.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): We push the boundaries, we try new things that nobody tried before.

Justin Richmond (game designer): Everything that we do in single-player shows up in multiplayer.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): You can see player movement as detailed as possible that you will see them if they were right next to you.

On-screen: Matchmaking
Christophe Balestra (co-president): So when we start work online, we also want to make sure the experience for the player would be just as simple as it is when you play single-player. So you hit start, you start the game, you play.

Justin Richmond (game designer): I can very quickly jump online, hit our matchmaking system, there's no waiting around, there's no nothing. I'm pushing a button, I'm in the game, I'm finding people of like skills, so it's bouncing me up and down and putting me into the right level. So I know that every game I play is gonna be fun. I'm gonna be constantly challenged, but it's not gonna be too hard.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): Also, something that's very important is being able to play with your friends, and that's why we created the party system.

Justin Richmond (game designer): If I have a bunch of friends online, I can very easily invite them to join my party. I can see them in their party, jump in with them with one button press.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): So that if you go and make a custom game, they can play a custom game with you. If you go in matchmaking, they're gonna come and be in your team, and just follow you in your matchmaking. So that's key, because a lot of people want to play with their friends too, it's super important, like to be just to chat with your friends and make fun of them sometimes if they die, and stuff like that. We made it really extremely easy, so I'm sure you are gonna use that feature a lot.

On-screen: Cinema
Justin Richmond (game designer): In the cinema mode, we record the games that you've played so you can go back and watch games that you've played before and see what exactly you did the last game you played.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): We saved your games when you play them. You can replay them, just fast-forward, pause the game, stop, freeze everything, move the camera around, and just get what's going on, where everybody is. And you can take screenshots and so that you can then show off your friends. You can also use it to see how other players are playing. So like, if a guy was really good in the other team or in your team, you can just replay the file and just follow it, and see how he did it, what was his tactic, digest it, to be so good. What is he doing? Everyone has a unique technique.

Justin Richmond (game designer): Even if you're playing by yourself, you're gonna call your friends, your wife, your kids, your friends in the house, and say, "Look at this, look at this awesome thing that happened," and sort of get more people involved. You know, you can go through and give yourself a best-of reel, which is really, really neat.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): The great thing about the PlayStation 3 that I love is the fact that it's a hard drive, and that's on every single machine, and that's priceless for us. So, cinema mode was very easy because we can save your cinema files to your hard drive very easily. And also, we are using some technology using the cloud where we can save the files, your cinema files, to the cloud so that when you want to share it with your friends, your friends just get it from the cloud and download it to their own PS3, to their hard drive.

On-screen: Player statistics
Justin Richmond (game designer): Ultimately, statistics are sort of the rawest form the game takes. So, as a designer and as a player, it's important that we're able to see those things so we know where the game is unbalanced. I would never be able to make the game fair if I couldn't tell what the statistics were for any given map in any given mode.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): We have to be creative because PSN is free, and I love that, it's the fact that people can just play online games for free at anytime and that's huge, and it's good because it forced us to find new ways to store that data, and that's why we started to work on other cloud technology things.

Justin Richmond (game designer): Things I thought that were cool maybe didn't work, maybe there were too many guests, maybe nobody ever went there. Those kinds of things were very, very easy for me to see because we did track so many statistics all the way along.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): The stats are the biggest thing for the players. They want to know how they're doing. We have competitions going on, and they want to be able to just look at the results of the game and check the result of the game, and be able to define who's winning the tournament.

On-screen: Live update
Justin Richmond (game designer): One of the best features of Uncharted 2 is the ability for us to live update the game, which means we don't have to patch. It's completely transparent to the player.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): Every time you start the game, you go on multiplayer, here at the bottom, you're gonna connect to our servers, and you're gonna sync the latest data. And this is completely transparent. It takes no time. So that, if we see there's a big advantage point on the map that we need to fix, we can do that without people knowing about it. And that's good because it makes the experience fair for everyone. The game has to be fair, and that's very important.

Justin Richmond (game designer): If we want to update models in the game, it's very, very easy for us to do that. If you want to update game modes, or even just tweaking numbers having to do with the explosive damage, let's say, or the damage of the guns, if we find that something's overpowered or in the wrong place even, we can update all those things.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): We want to be able, just to be able just to keep, you know, just to keep pushing new things to the players even after we ship, and that was a big part of our technology too. And we're using the cloud for that too, where we store all our files just that you need to update on the cloud, and again, it's all free, and it's all good.

Mastering the Cell Processor[]

On-screen: Mastering the cell processor
Pal Engstad (lead programmer): For Uncharted 2, we had a little bit more time, and so we could really, really attack the hardware. This time around, we saw a huge target in helping out the graphics chip by offloading some of the work to the SPUs. And when we started doing that, we realized that the SPUs are really, really good at doing this kind of work. We added more functionality to it so that it all could be done on the SPUs, and really, really efficiently, and with much higher quality than before. Our characters typically have 80,000 polygons, in like you know, like the main character. In total what we try to push through to the graphics chip is about 1.2 million triangles that we try to draw every frame. We do a lot using the cell processor, we make heavy use of assembly programming, which is really nitty-gritty programming.

On-screen: Animation blending
Travis McIntosh (lead programmer): Uncharted has animation blending as a core feature of our technology, a core feature of how our characters move, and it's incredibly unique to the way we're approaching the problem of producing really high-quality animation.

Christian Gyrling (lead programmer): We can have animations that range anywhere from just a couple animations to, up to 20-30 animations at one time, affecting a character, affecting them in various parts like hands, face, shoulders, back, and legs.

Travis McIntosh (lead programmer): We don't have to have an animator animate every single possible combination of the player putting away his weapon while jumping, or running and shooting, or all these different things no animator can animate enough animations to produce the same look that we've been able to do by mixing and matching, by laying animations on top of each other, by blending on animations even on different layers, and that really gives the player a lot more control over what he wants to do, not limited by our animators.

On-screen: Post processing effects
Pal Engstad (lead programmer): We added more functionality to it so that, for instance, the camera, motion blur, it all could be done on the SPUs efficiently and with much higher quality than before. So we added lots of things on top of it including bloom, and down-sampling, the focal blur and the interesting thing about the vocal blur is that we are actually being very accurate, so that when you when you fight with a character we can focus on what's happening in close combat, whereas when you aim at someone far away we can focus on what's happening far away, and things that are near blur out. So it really guides your eye, maybe in the same way that your eye focuses on something in the distance or up close. Now that we don't have to do the post-effects using the graphics chip, that means that the graphics chip can do more, which means that we can render more polygons, and have more interesting backgrounds. So, all in all, It's a huge benefit for the graphics.

On-screen: Objects
Christian Gyrling (lead programmer): We really wanted to push the PS3, which we knew we could push even further from what we had done with the first game. And we went from 150 objects for the first game. This game was capable of over 500 objects in just a couple of milliseconds.

Travis McIntosh (lead programmer): —And that has allowed us to make the world come to life.—

Christian Gyrling (lead programmer): —to really feel real. Feel like you're not in this frozen wasteland, but really that you're in a building that's being destroyed, that you're in a war zone with everything going on around you. That things are more real than they ever have been before, and it shows. Given the SPU's and just the harnessing the power of the PS3, we can now take it so much further. And in Uncharted 2, we've really taken it the next step.

On-screen: Lighting
Pal Engstad (lead programmer): Because our game is very much an action movie, right? So, you would expect it to have, to look sort of like a movie. It's still stylized but movie-like. And so, we made a filmic filter for the high dynamic range so we could play much more with the light values. It looks much more believable. And also, it sort of solves a lot of the shadowing problems that you sort of expect to see. So, it really puts everything together in sort of a cohesive way. Hard to do, but the benefits are huge because you can make real magic happen.

Thinking Like A Dog[]

Christophe Balestra: We hate management, we hate meetings, we don't like long emails.

Evan Wells: If you see something in the game that you want to fix, don't ask permission, just go in there and make it awesome.

On-screen: Thinking like a dog (Naughty Dog philosophy)
Christophe Balestra (co-president): Yeah, people are asking us, like, what's your secret? Yeah, what are we all about?

Evan Wells (co-president): It's always sort of a corny answer, but it's really the people, and you know we have really strict hiring practices. Every single discipline has a test that we give people, and we have a very thorough interview process as well. We really want to make sure that people we're bringing in are going to work with the way we like to work, which is everyone's got to be very self-motivated, self-starters. We don't have very much management.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): We say, like, we don't hire people so they can work for us, but we hire people so we can work with them.

Evan Wells (co-president): We hired people because of their talent and their creativity, and we want people to get in there and collaborate because that's where the magic happens, really. I mean, when you've got a programmer working with an animator or a modeler working with a text artist, and they're sitting right next to each other and they're communicating on a daily basis—

Evan Wells & Christophe Balestra: —bureaucracy, hierarchy—

Christophe Balestra (co-president): —All that stuff, that's just like, this is not us. And, uh, we are just trying to be as plain as we can in terms of our organization, try to be efficient, go to the point, and get done. Just like we trust everyone just to be on top of what they have to do.

Evan Wells (co-president): Well, that's the thing, I mean, I think we're somewhat spoiled because, as we're saying, we have this amazing team and we've got these people that we can trust, and they're going to do great work even if they are, have very minimal direction. And that's the kind of people that we want to bring into Naughty Dog. In the end, that environment can kind of be chaotic, but that's sort of what we all thrive in, and it's organized chaos and sometimes not so organized chaos. But in the end, I know we've got the team that can pull off those ideas and just make the game even better.

Evan Wells (co-president): So yeah, our team size is, you know, more than doubled in just the last probably three years, and you know, we're still trying to maintain that small game company feel. We're trying to make sure that everybody feels like they've got a say in the production and everybody's got a voice to be heard. I feel like every single day I come to work, I learn something, you know, and I'm being pushed by my peers around me to, um, you know, keep up with the state of the art.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): After shipping a game, we tell people, you know what, just go ahead. I mean, just try things out. You have no direction whatsoever. You have three months, do whatever you want to do.

Evan Wells (co-president): Actually, a lot of the greatest ideas that ended up in the game of Uncharted 2 came out of that period of time, that first three months between Uncharted 1 and when we fully hit production of Uncharted 2. Yeah, so yeah, that period of time of just being able to be creative without restriction, I think really helps the entire production process.

Evan Wells (co-president): We are very communicative with the game development community at large. We talk to other developers within Sony and even other friends in the industry and just try to bounce ideas off them, see how they've got their studio set up.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): If we know great guys who are making great games, we're gonna ask them if they want to come by our studio so they can check it out. We're really, really open about what we do. We're trying to share it with other developers within Sony and outside Sony.

Evan Wells (co-president): Now the teams are so big, the development process is so complicated—

Christophe Balestra (co-president): —Challenges are so different.—

Evan Wells (co-president): —that just having the idea is only the first step, and you've still got 99 more steps before you're actually going to be able to implement that idea.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): Evan comes from design, and he's still doing design work. I come from programming, I'm still doing programming work.

Evan Wells (co-president): And everybody from top to bottom works on the game actually has a task that they're producing work that's making the game better. Nobody's just managing a schedule or pushing papers. We want the decision to be in the hands of the people that are doing the work.

Christophe Balestra (co-president): This is our first passion, and we don't want to lose that. I think we will probably lose some of the energy that we have if we can spend some time doing what's our first passion. Somehow it works, and cross our fingers, but yeah, it works.
