The M4 is an assault rifle commonly featured in the Uncharted series. It is a more advanced and stronger rifle than its early-game counterpart, the AK-47. It has a slightly higher rate of fire, and slightly more accuracy with prolonged fire, making it a great choice for medium to long-range combat.

History[]

Drake's Fortune[]

Showdown gameplay 4

Nate using an M4 in the final showdown.

The M4 rifle was first available for Nate in the customs house in "Trapped", and was available in most chapters from that point on. In the customs house, several could be found propped up against objects, amidst an ambush planned by Eddy Raja's pirates.

From then on, Nate regularly found and used them in the monastery, due to it being one of the main weapons used by Atoq Navarro's mercenaries, as well as the pirates in the treasure vault during "The Treasure Vault". Nate was able to use one in "Showdown" during the fight against Atoq Navarro and his mercenaries, until he dropped it off the boat's deck, forcing him to finish off Navarro hand-to-hand.

Among Thieves[]

M4 gameplay from AT

In Among Thieves the M4 became available for the first time aboard Zoran Lazarević's train in "Locomotion". Several could be found throughout the train, and subsequently in most of the remaining chapters. In this point of Among Thieves, Zoran Lazarević's soldiers also began using them in place of AK-47s. Similar to the end of Drake's Fortune, Drake was equipped with this rifle in the final chapter "Tree of Life", and used it against Lazarević, eventually holding him at gunpoint before he decided to not kill him by his own hands.

Design[]

In Drake's Fortune and Among Thieves, the M4 is seemingly modeled after the Colt Model 653, a carbine based on the M16A1 rifle. It is distinguished by the non-detachable carry handle, lack of a step in the barrel for mounting an M203, and lack of a brass deflector. In A Thief's End, it is modeled on the Colt Model 6920 Law Enforcement Carbine, a commercial version of the M4 carbine with a 16" barrel and semi-automatic only trigger.

Like in Drake's Fortune, the reload animation in its sequel is executed incorrectly, as Nate will reload it like an AK-47 by pulling back an invisible charging handle on the dust cover, instead of pulling back the charging handle or hitting the bolt catch.

Multiplayer[]

A Thief's End[]

The M4 is only available in multiplayer. It was released alongside the Survival game mode update. The M4 can be dropped through DLC weapon chests or purchased for 400 Uncharted Points. The M4 has medium recoil, medium accuracy, medium range, medium fire-rate, and low damage. It is best used at medium range.

Medal and trophy[]

Scoring 50 kills with the M4 will unlock the medal, worth 10 points, and bronze trophy "50 Kills: M4" in Drake's Fortune and Drake's Fortune Remastered. Scoring 70 kills with the M4 will unlock the medal, worth $10,000, and bronze trophy "70 Kills: M4" in Among Thieves.

Among Thieves Remastered instead only requires 50 kills for the trophy, of the same type, "50 kills: M4". Golden Abyss includes the same bronze trophy for 70 kills.
