The MP40 is a submachine gun featured in Drake's Fortune and Among Thieves. It served as the main submachine gun used by Nazi Germany during World War II. The MP40 is not available in any multiplayer. Nate primarily used it as a blind-firing gun for short to medium range attacks against the descendants, and it has a decent reload speed and rate of fire to keep up with them. Oddly enough it has practically no recoil, making it extremely accurate even with prolonged fired.
It is first found inside the submarine bunker during "The Bunker" and "Unwelcome Guests", where Nate picked up many MP40s littered throughout the location, left behind after the descendants slaughtered the original German inhabitants.
In the sequel it is found in a trap right before the Path of Light puzzle, indicating the Ahnenerbe Nazis found the temple and that at least one of them perished there. Several were also found lying around in the ice temple's inner sanctum, alongside the remains of Karl Schäfer's expedition crew. There Nate used it to fend off the disguised guardians.
Medal and trophy[]
Scoring 30 kills with the MP40 will unlock the medal, worth 10 points, and bronze trophy "30 Kills: MP40" in Drake's Fortune and Drake's Fortune Remastered. Scoring 50 kills will unlock the medal "50 Kills: MP40", worth $10,000, in Among Thieves.
Behind the Scene[]
- The magazine of the MP40 was moved back towards the trigger in-game. This was done so the animators would not need to make an animation specifically for holding the MP40, instead placing his hand to grip the magazine as was done in real life.
- Historically, MP40s are known to have reliability issues under extreme cold weather. Even if the cold and dry glacier climate would help preserve the weapon at pristine condition for 70 years, the bolt would likely jam (from both poor lubrication and frozen vapor) after one or a few shots in real life.
