The Moss - 12 is a pump-action shotgun commonly featured in the Uncharted series. As a shotgun the Moss - 12 is extremely effective over short ranges, making it a good choice for close quarters combat, killing all enemies with one shot. Its damage drops off very rapidly at medium range, dealing none at longer distances, although it can still be useful to hit enemies at range solely due to its spread and stopping power. Its slow rate of fire and reload speed makes it ineffective against multiple enemies, but it is capable of firing while still loading shells.

The term "Moss - 12" appears to be a shortened version of the shotgun's full name, Mossberg Maverick (Persuader). The 12 stands for "12-gauge". In Golden Abyss it is a mariner version.

History[]

Drake's Fortune[]

Out of Road 2

Eddy with the Moss - 12.

First encountered in "Plane-wrecked", the Moss - 12 is solely used by Eddy Raja's pirates, particularly the large fat variant, and those wearing body armor. They will prefer to rush towards Nate, making them dangerous if encountered in the open, or if given the chance to flank you.

The shotgun was relatively commonly available throughout the hidden island, up till "Trapped", after which they were entirely replaced with the SAS - 12 shotguns used by Atoq Navarro's mercenaries. The Moss - 12 appeared for the last time in "The Heart of the Vault", in the namesake treasure vault, where Nate found a large group of AK-47s and Moss - 12s that were left behind by pirates that got killed by descendants.

Among Thieves[]

The Moss - 12 was commonly used by several of Zoran Lazarević's soldiers, including the standard masked soldier that attempts to close in on Nate, and the armored men that walk at a steady pace. The former first appeared appeared in the chapter "Borneo", whereas the latter started showing up in "Desperate Times". The final appearance of the shotgun was in "Cat and Mouse".

Similar to Drake's Fortune, they are eventually replaced with the stronger SAS - 12 shotguns, used by the same type of soldiers. Halfway through the game the Pistole will also be used as an alternative by the unarmored soldiers.
