Partners is the eighth chapter of The Lost Legacy.
Plot[]
Realizing that Asav was planning to sell the Tusk of Ganesh for what seemed like munitions, Chloe, Nadine, and Sam begin making their way through the countryside to a train yard in the hopes of intercepting the sale and taking back the Tusk. Sam explains that he tried to gather intel on the buyers, but could not due to how secretive Asav was about it. Along the way, they notice the same helicopter circling the area.
Eventually, the trio comes across a cave and notice a couple of mercenaries discussing something. Before they can make a move, Sam and Nadine recognize their voices and realize they are Shoreline deserters who have allied with Asav's insurgents. Despite claiming she is calm when asked by Chloe, Nadine furiously attacks them head-on, causing a massive firefight to erupt. After arming themselves and clearing out the soldiers, the three continue on, with Nadine stating that she refuses to let anyone from Shoreline get the Tusk.
Once they arrive at the train yard crawling with both insurgents and Shoreline mercenaries, they spot Orca, a former Shoreline lieutenant, being handed the Tusk by Asav before taking off in the same chopper from earlier to patrol the area. By using explosives, Chloe is able to deal enough damage that she and Nadine can use their ropes to climb up the chopper. In the midst of their scuffle, Orca accidentally shoots the pilot, forcing Chloe and Nadine to jump out as the helicopter crashes outside the train yard. Before they can grab the Tusk from the wreckage, Orca stumbles out from inside, badly wounded. Nadine is disgusted to see what Orca has done to Shoreline, wishing she had shot him back on Turtle Island. Sam walks up to ask for the Tusk, surprising Orca as he did not expect to see him as a partner of Nadine. Chloe notices the train speeding away, while Nadine, unfazed, continues to demand the Tusk. Orca tosses it over before attempting to reach for his spare gun. Sam quickly tackles Nadine to the ground before Orca can shoot her, and she finishes him off.
While Sam and Nadine bicker over their share of the reclaimed Tusk, Chloe recovers a blueprint from Orca's corpse and realizes that Asav had traded the Tusk for a bomb, which is on the train headed for the city. Nadine suggests notifying the authorities, but Chloe states that there is not enough time and the bomb would kill millions if detonated. Realizing she has no choice, Chloe grabs an assault rifle off the ground and prepares to set off for the train. Nadine quickly objects, stating that this is not their fight and disarming the bomb would be impossible. Chloe concurs with the former point, affirming that this is her fight and that she refuses to walk away even if it means death. Despite intending to go alone, she is quickly joined in the jeep by Sam and then Nadine, and they set off for the train.
