Where Am I? is the sixteenth chapter of Among Thieves. After surviving and escaping the train wreckage Nate was rescued by a Tibetan villager, and woke up in his home. Unable to communicate, the man managed to convey that he wanted Nate to follow him.
Story[]
Nate followed the stranger through the village, meanwhile trying to talk with the other people he encountered, although none of them understood English. He also tried to figure out where he was based on his surroundings, but all he could see were tall mountains.
Schäfer's Story[]
After following the man to a house at the end of the village, Nate found Elena playing with the stranger's daughter while waiting for him. She explained he had only been in the village for a few days, and that she had followed the tracks to the wreckage, wondering what happened to the train. Nate clarified that she was right about Chloe, and that she did not want to be rescued, although it was Flynn who was responsible for the gunshot wound. At this point the stranger interrupted them, and Elena replied in Tibetan, after which she took Nate to meet Karl Schäfer.
After greeting one another, Schäfer told Nate that seventy years ago he too was carried into the village close to death, the last survivor of his company. He continued, explaining that he was hired to lead an expedition into Tibet to find the entrance to Shambhala, although what the Nazis truly wanted was the Cintamani Stone. He then asked Nate where he had found the Phurba, clarifying that it was the one object Lazarević needed to enter Shambhala. Nate was aware of this, but said he was through with the adventure. Schäfer taunted him, but Nate did not relent and further doubled down on quitting things.
Schäfer then revealed that other rulers throughout history like Tamerlane and Genghis Khan had possessed only a fragment of the Cintamani Stone, and that if only a mere sliver could grant that much power, and questioned how dangerous Lazarević could become if he possessed the Stone itself. Nate thought this was crazy, and Elena tried to convince him on the odds that it might be true. Schäfer knew Nate would require proof, and told him to find the remains of his expedition for actual proof, asking Tenzin to lead him there as his guide. Nate was reluctant, but went along. At the entrance to the ice caves he asked Tenzin what the text in front of the entrance meant, although Tenzin got annoyed that Nate did not understood what he meant. At that he took out his kukri and moved to entered the cave, leaving Nate confused.
Walkthrough[]
The sixteenth chapter is very short, as you technically only need to follow Tenzin and enter Schäfer's house. There is some room to explore the village, interacting with the people and searching around the area for commentary by Nate on his surroundings. If you interact with all four yaks you also receive a medal. After the cutscene, which starts upon entering the house at the very end of the path, you continue with the next chapter "Mountaineering".
